VGC Battling
Forum Index > Pokémon > Misc. Pokémon >
Hey everyone! Just wanted to make a thread and see how many people on here battle competitively (or even casually)!
I've just recently started playing more competitively since I'll be playing in Orlando in April!
Would love to talk VGC, the always changing meta, strategies and more!
Collecting Cobalt Epee's for my first legendary hunt! Also collecting Terracotta Epees! 18zc per epee
Oh boy! I don't play VGC, but I do play competitive singles on a website called Showdown. Casually, but I have made it to top 30 on one of the ladders and am relatively happy with myself :) But I'm currently on hiatus
I can't access VGC since I don't have Nintendo Online, and I learned competitive on singles, so the doubles format will always be a bit of a mystery to me ^^' I do watch VGC videos on Youtube tho so I kinda understand the meta? Very vaguely?
Anyways I've been looking for a thread like this; I haven't met anybody who plays competitive on here before!

Holy crap that's awesome! Congrats on that!
Whenever you decide to get back into it, I'd love to battle and maybe strategize together!
Who do you like to watch on YouTube?
Thank you <3
I watch WolfeyVGC, Freezai, and False Swipe Gaming. I think they all give solid analyses. Well, the last one isn't really relevant to the meta and all, but it's cool
You're Welcome! :3
I watch Wolfey as well! Heard of False Swipe, but don't know Freezai.. I'll have to check them out!
I'm hoping to see Wolfey and other big names in Orlando when I go haha
Good luck! Hey, could you show me your team? Idk if I'll be able to help but I just want to know. I think I'm getting back into competitive again, even if rn my only teams are hyper-offense.
Also if you didn't know, Showdown's teambuilder is a really good place to strategize in, it even shows you the meta through usage stats.
Thank you! Right now, I'm running this team (but I feel like I'm missing/need to change something):
Torkoal
Ogrepon (HearthFlame Mask)
Chien-Pao
Raging Bolt
Gouging Fire
Amoongus
I'll try and take a screenshot and post it in here! and okay sweet, I'm still learning with showdown so I'll take a look into that more!
With showdown you don't need to take any screenshots! After adding the pokemon, moves, ivs/evs etc, there's an import/export button near the top and when pressed, shows a format like this
Which I honestly think is really useful, and anyways in the meantime I'll try building my own vgc team. Maybe we can battle sometime!

So, right off the bat without testing, a few things.
What does Tera stellar do on chien-pao? I'm assuming some sort of important kill range, but otherwise something else is better. There's no speed control, which in vgc is an important thing correct? Your team's not very fast either. And the Torkoal set there, that's trick room exclusive. It's way too slow otherwise.
I might go into more in-depth testing later but in the meantime, mind writing a description for each mon? It's an... Odd request, but it will help me understand the intentions behind each mon better.
(or u can ditch me entirely and hop on to smogon's rmt for more professionals to help)
