The Pokemon PalPark is open for business
May 3, 2007
One of the biggest complaints Pokemon players had when the new GBA games came out was that you could not bring your Pokemon with you. In the days of the GameBoy and the GameBoy Color Nintendo offered a way to transport your Pokemon from the original games to the newer Crystal, Gold and Silver games. For some reason, Nintendo opted not to allow you to move your Pokemon over to the newer Ruby and Sapphire games. This may have been because they knew they intended to re-do the original games for the GBA as Fire Red and Leaf Green.
With Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl now available Ninntedo decided to allow you to transfer your Pokemon from your GBA games (Ruby, Saphire, Emerald, Leaf Green and Fire Red) to your new game. This is done via the migrate feature and the PalPark.
After you defeat the Elite Four in Diamond and Pearl and complete your Sinnoh Pokedex you acquire the NationalDex. with the NationalDex in your hands the PalPark will now be open for business.
In order to get Pokemon into the PalPark you must insert a GBA Pokemon game into your GBA slot on the DS. You can only transfer Pokemon that are in your box and they can not have any HM moves on them. This means common HM moves such Cut, Surf and Fly must be removed before they can be transferred. I don’t know why they chose to do it this way but it may have to do with the shuffling of HM moves that occurred when Diamond and Pearl were released.
- To Transfer Pokemon:
- Insert the GBA game into your DS GBA slot
- Turn on the DS and start Diamond/Pearl
- On the menu screen choose the “migrate from XXX” option
- Click yes when it asks you the questions
- Select 6 Pokemon to transfer
- Click yes
Your game will now restart and the six Pokemon you chose will be in the PalPark waiting for you.
It is very important to understand that this is a one-way transfer. Pokemon can not travel back to the GBA game.
Once you arrive at the PalPark you will be given six Park Balls, these are effectively Master Balls. You will then be let loose into the park where you will have to run through grass and surf on the water in an attempt to find all of the Pokemon you transfered over. The more rare the Pokemon the harder it will be to find. You also need to take care of what sort of Pokemon you transfer as they will be in a certain part of the park based on their type. i.e. water Pokemon will either be in the pond or in the ocean and Rock Pokemon will likely be in the rocky area of the park.
It should not take more than five minutes to capture all six. You have to capture all six before you can migrate any other Pokemon.
Limits
There are some limits in place for migration:
1) You can only migrate from a given GBA game once per 24 hours.
2) No HM moves
It is very important that you do not try to change your DS clock to migrate twice in one day. All this will result in is a 24 hour ban on the migration feature. Trust me, it’s not worth it!
The same thing will occur if you put your game into a different DS. The game will balk and lock you out of the migration feature for 24 hours!
The 24 hour feature is based on 24 hours since you last transferred Pokemon from that particular GBA game, it does not reset at midnight.
Otherwise, if you have multiple GBA game packs you can transfer multiple groups of six Pokemon all day long!
Note
I do have one concern. A while back I purchased a used copy of Ruby from a game store. On that game were a few “hacked” Pokemon. One of them was a Deoxys that would not obey. On a lark I transferred him to my Pearl game. He now obeys.
When you transfer a Pokemon via the PalPark the only information that stays is where they came from (Hoen/Kanto) and the level they were transferred at. This means the old standby of checking where the Pokemon was first me is gone. In the past, if someone had a rare Pokemon that was met at the wrong place and at the wrong level you could tell it was hacked.
I fear that the GTS may be ruined by the influx of hacked Pokemon. The only thing I can tell you is to beware of any Pokemon trades that involve Pokemon that are not native to Diamond and Pearl.

can you transfer pokemon from diamond to ruby which have not already been transferred to diamond, if so how?
if some one were to hack a pokemon and migrate it to me wat r some of the things that can happen besides my game resting or something???
Um, Pal Park hasn’t yet opened for me but when it does I want all the info. If you migrate the 6 pokemon and end up not catching all of them within the 24 hour period, do they dissapear of can you go back to try again?
I have pokemon diamond and pokemon sapphire. In my sapphire game my pokemon are all on very high levels. Ex: 70’s and 85’s. Is it truly safe to migrate, or is there a possibility that i might loose one of my pokemon in migration? please tell me!
yes it is very safe and if u do it succsesfully u will get a message
Do you know why they would do that 24 hour thing?? If you do can you email me.
Surprised nobody brought this up, but the real reason you can’t transfer Pokemon from the second generation (Gold, Silver, Crystal) to the third generation (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) onwards (Diamond, Pearl) is:
1. The IV* system was totally reworked. Where Pokemon on the first and second generations could only have up to 16 IVs in a single stat, Pokemon now can have up to 31 in a single stat.
2. Trading Pokemon between games was slower on the older games than it is on the newer generations of Pokemon games.
* IV means “Initial Values”–One of the several major ‘hidden numbers’ in the Pokemon games. It’s too much information to go into here, but there’s more than enough information on various Pokemon fan sites.
Wher is palpark? I cant find it.
palpark is located acrross the sea at sandgem town.
near the south of sandgem town.go to the water surf over it till u find land.right at the back u will find the pal park.once u have found it u can fly to it easily
I entered Palpark in Diamond, spoke to the prof. Later inserted Ruby into DS slot. Was told by lady at counter in Palpark that I didn’t have six pokemon. When I checked Ruby cartridge it showed that game was deleted and wanted to start new game. HELP.
Put the game back in your GBA and try to play it. The GBA should restore your lost game using the backup save file. The DS will not do this.
Same thing happened to my Leaf Green.
it works
u switc the cartridge to any other game start ds and click ds game (pokemon/pearl/diamond)the migrate section wil be there now click it and wen its loading switch it off and that may give memo bak to your ds game such as pokemon diamond and pearl put ruby bak in and start. hope it helped :)
I THINK IT’S GREAT YOU CAN NOW MIGRATE YOUR POKEMON FROM YOUR OLD GAMES 2 DIAMOND & PEARL I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I GOT THE NATIONAL DEX I MIGRATED PKMN RIGHT AWAY FROM MY SAPPHIRE GAME.

Hello i have a problem with transfering pokemon to my diamond game.
When ever i put my sapphire game into my Ds with my diamond game firstly it dosent work secondly my sapphire memory becomes erased.
Why does this happen.
I have a problem when trying to migrate pokemon from my Fire Red to Diamond.
I bought a new copy of Fire Red and then tried to migrate the starter pokemon onto diamond. After i had caught the six pokemon i saved and turned off, then started diamond, there was no migrate option and when i went back to fire red my file had been deleted. I have tried this many times, i have played up untill getting the first badge and then tried again, but it just gave me the same message.
Do i have to play up untll a certain point int he game before i can migrate through pal park?
You have to beat the elite four and complete the pokedex before the option is open to you
i have to beat the elite four on fire red? i have beaten the elite four and got the national dex on diamond.
try getting all the jim badges on green/red/diamond/pearl and winning the pokemon league on them
Hi,
I need help. I have a German version of the GBA Pokemon Ruby and i won the elite 4 and got the national pokedex, basically i won the whole game. I also have a pokemon diamond version for the DS and also won the elite four and got the national pokedex which is essential for the migration. So, when i put both games into my DS the migration option does not appear for some reason. Even though i can play the GBA game on my DS. Can anybody help me please?
you have to go talk to the prof. then he can tell you that you can migrate.
Yo,
I’m so happy,I finaly found a way to abuse the migration process so you can do it more than once every 24 hours.I looked but nobody seemed to have any comments about it so here you go.You need your one GBA game that you want to transfer from many times, and another one(it doesn’t matter). You transfer once, and then you go and change the date setting on your DS one day forward.Put the other game in and try to migrate. It will say that you have changed the time/date and will ask you if you want to save the changes.Say yes,it will take a second and tell you that you can’t transfer for another 24 hours.Shut down, put in your other game and transfer!!!To do it again just repeat the whole process. It works, believe me I transfered 18 Pokemon yesterday!!!
I have pokemon leaf green and beaten the elite four a numarus amount of times and i cant migrate to diamond so I have to trade it to emerald and then migrate so how come I cant migrate please help?
