Haunted Halloween Farming: Rotom
October 29, 2008 | 60 Comments

I was watching TV late one night and all of a sudden weird things started happening.
CRASH
“What in the world was that,” I muttered to myself as I went outside to see if there was any damage. “A Thunderbolt (Electric STAB, Power 95, Acc 100) must have hit the house.”
When I returned in the house I noticed the television was showing nothing but static. “Turn the TV off boys and go to bed. The lightning must have knocked out the cable.”
“They’re here,” the boys replied in unison.
“What are talking about? Now shut off that TV, it’s only static anyhow.”
“The Rotoms are here,” they eerily replied.
Just then a Shadow Ball (Ghost, STAB, Power 80, Acc 100) whizzed by my head. “What in the …, it’s a good thing that didn’t hit me or it could have lowered my Special Defenses.”
Suddenly the fan whirred to life behind me. I walked into the kitchen to turn it off when the refrigerator doors suddenly flew open. I quickly backed up only to have the oven flash on and open its door.
“I know how to take care of electricity. I’ll just ground it.”
“It won’t work,” the boys replied, “Rotoms have the ability to Levitate and are immune to ground attacks.”
“What sort of Hidden Power is causing this,” I wondered aloud. I grabbed the boys and ran out the back only to be greeted by the washing machine starting on its own. As we were leaving the house I heard the Dark Pulse (Dark, Power 80, Acc 100) of the lawn mower roaring to life and we hurried away from the house as fast as we could. Looking back at the flashing lights within the house, even though I have a Modest (+ SpAtt, -Att) nature, I thought to myself, “Man that paint job sure makes the house look better.”
When we returned the next day the house appeared normal. No mysterious appliances running amok.
“Where are they boys? Can you tell?”, I asked.
“They’ve gone into the wifi. But they’ll be back”
“When?”
Thursday, October 30th at 4-6 PM CST (5-7 PM Eastern, 2-4 PM Pacific time, 9PM British)
If you have a unearthly desire to see these shocking sights for yourself, be in the wifi room to receive your very own Rotom holding a special Halloween treat.

Pokemon Farming!: Houndour
October 17, 2008 | 53 Comments
![]()
Houndour is an often over looked pokemon of the fire and dark typing. It’s known for their tenacity and team work, Houndour are a useful member of any team. At level 24 Houndour evolves into the eerie Houndoom. Houndoom is a great member of any team. With the ability to absorb and power itself up with enemy fire attacks, Houndoom works well for forcing choiced opponents stuck on a fire attack to switch out, giving it the opportunity to boost it’s stat. With Nasty Plot in it’s arsenal it poses a threat even to the queen of special walling, Blissey. So, the Houndour I have for you today are Timid(attack-, speed+) with the following move set:
Nasty Plot: Raises Houndour’s special attack by two stages.
Flamethrower: A powerful STAB with a base power of 95 and a 10% chance of burning your opponent.
Dark Pulse: A secondary STAB, with a bonus of a 20% flinch rate.
Counter: A retaliation move that inflicts double the damage taken from any physical attack.
Ability:
Flash Fire: When hit by a fire attack(Will-o-wisp included) Houndour’s fire attacks will recieve a 1.5 boost

Pokemon Farming: Tyrogue
September 28, 2008 | 35 Comments

My first offering since being named Gym Leader of the Cobble Gym has to be the ultimate fighter Tyrogue. He may not seem like he is that powerful, but he evolves into three impressive fighters: the kickboxing Hitmonlee, the ultimate boxer Hitmonchan and the break-dancing spinner Hitmontop.
Tyrogue will evolve at level 20 and its evolution depends on its attack and defense stats. If the attack is higher than the defense, it will evolve into Hitmonlee who has the highest base attack and speed of Tyrogue’s evolutions. If attack is lower than the defense, it will evolve into Hitmonchan who can learn several elemental punching moves. Though it will have lower base stats in attack and speed than Hitmonlee it won’t have the dreadful defense that his counterpart has. If the attack and defense stats are the same, Tyrogue will evolve into Hitmontop who has equally good base defense and attack stats. All of Tyrogue’s evolutions have excellent base SpDef, but low HP.
Since attack is the name of the game in the fighting gym, all these Tyrogue’s will be Adamant (+Attack, -SpAttack) so if you are trying for the latter evolutions, then you need to EV train them in defense and with their fighting moves they will make mincemeat out of the Geodudes and Gravelers in the Oreburgh Mine or Iron Island. If after level 20 they aren’t evolving into the form you’d like simply press B to stop the evolution and keep up the EV training. Each of these Tyrogues will be holding a Qualot Berry. After you get the evolution you are looking for, then each Qualot Berry that you feed your poke will reduce its defense EVs by 10 and you can start working on its attack Evs.
Each Tyrogue will have an egg move from each evolution:
Mach Punch (Fighting STAB, Power 40, Acc 100:
A first strike move with a STAB boost.
Rapid Spin (Normal, Power 20, Acc 100):
Although it might not be the best use of its power, fighting pokemon are resistant to Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin removes such hazards along with Toxic Spikes, Spikes, Leech Seed and frees itself from trapping moves like Clamp, Fire Spin, Magma Storm, Whirlpool and Sand Tomb.
Hi Jump Kick (Fighting STAB Power 100, Acc 90):
A powerful move, but if it misses the user will take half the damage that it would have inflicted on the opponent.
Brick Break (Fighting STAB, Power 75, Acc 100):
A solid STAB move that will break defensive barriers such as Light Screen and Reflect.
Their abilities are:
Steadfast: raises speed one stage (50%) if flinched
Its evolutions are:
Hitmonlee - Reckless: Recoil moves get a 20% boost in power making Hi Jump Kick have a 180 power with is STAB and ability boost, but the recoil damage is upped 30% also.
Hitmonchan - Iron Fist: All punching moves get a 20% boost in power
Hitmontop - Technician: All moves with power of 60 or less get a 50% boost in power
Guts: Attack is boosted one stage (50%) if inflicted by a status such as Burn, Paralyze, or Poison.
Its evolutions are:
Hitmonlee - Limber: Cannot be paralyzed. Hitmonlee relies on his speed and can’t afford to be paralyzed.
Hitmonchan - Keen Eye: Accuracy cannot be lowered by opponents moves either directly by Kinesis or Sand Attack or by secondary effects on moves like Muddy Water or Mirror Shot.
Hitmontop - Intimidate: Lowers opponents attack one stage (50%) upon entering the battle
These Tyrogues will all have a 29+ IV in Attack

Pokemon Farming: Charmander!
September 13, 2008 | 50 Comments
The “Bellyzard” is the staple of Charizards all over the competitive battling scene. These Charmander will be traded to you knowing the following moves: Belly Drum, a move that halves your HP as a cost to maximize your Pokémon’s Atk, with the move Substitute, that brings your Pokémon’s HP down to ¼ health, The Pokémon’s ability, Blaze, is activated giving you a massive STAB Blaze max attack fire fang, capable of OHKO, and the last move, Dragon Claw, provides coverage for those nasty dragons that resist fire type moves and will cause decent damage on all other types of Pokémon.
Substitute: The user makes a copy of itself using some of its HP. The copy serves as the user’s decoy.
Belly Drum: The user maximizes its Attack stat in exchange for HP equal to half its max HP.
Fire Fang: The user bites with flame-cloaked fangs. It may also make the foe flinch or sustain a burn.
Dragon Claw: The user slashes the foe with huge, sharp claws.
These Charmander have the ability:
Blaze: Raises the power of the Pokemon with Blaze’s Fire-type attacks by 1.5x when the Pokemon has less than 34% of its max HP.

Pokemon Farming- Ash Kicking Pichu
August 26, 2008 | 34 Comments
August 26, 2008
Surprise Pokemon Farming!
Pikachu is the classic staple of pokemon. Everyone who knows of pokemon knows pikachu. While these little guys are just the babies of Pikachu and Raichu they will grow up to be more powerful than Ash’s Pikachu could ever dream. Sure, Ash’s pikachu has volt tackle but so do these guys. Ash’s pikachu has iron tail these little fellows have Grass Knot. These pichu are indeed a force to be reckoned with. The Pichus I’m adopting out today are hasty(speed+, defense-), and have the following move set:
- Wish: A healing move that takes effect on the next turn. Using it is all a matter of timing.
- Thunderbolt: A powerful STAB attack, if you’re opponent thinks about sending in a Water type, this will rip a hole in them.
- Grassknot: Take out those hefty ground types always looking to ruin your day.
- Volt Tackle: A powerful physical attack only the electric mouse can learn.
These pichu have the ability:
Static: Chance of paralyzing opponent if it makes physical contact with pichu.
All Pichu will hold:
Hold Item: Light Ball, doubles pikachus special attack. Needed to farm pichus with volt tackle. (all lovingly farmed from wild pikachus)

Pokemon Farming: Swinub!
August 10, 2008 | 41 Comments
August 12, 2008
Continuing our “Winter in August” this week, I bring you Swinub. Swinub’s an odd little piglet of the ice and ground typing. In fact, it and it’s evolutions are the only pokemon who are immune to Sand Storm’s and Hail, making them great choices if you’re planing on building either weather team. Swinub evolves into Piloswine at level 33, and if you teach it Ancient Power it will evolve into the Mamoswine. Mamoswine is not only a behemoth in size, it’s attack tops off at a beastly 394, it ties with Garchomp and Breloom in terms of attack strength. Of course since it has access to Ice Shard, it can destroy both aforementioned pokemon before they can scratch it. So, the Swinub I’m adopting out today are adamant(attack+, sp. attack-), with max attack IVs and the following move set:
Ice Shard: A STABed priority attack, if D-dance or Scarfed dragons are giving you problem, this attack will solve your problems.
Earthquake: A powerful secondary STAB attack, if you’re opponent thinks about sending in a Bulky Water type, this will rip a hole in them. If you want to have some more fun, slap a choice band on this guy.
Curse: This move raises your attack and def, hopefully giving Mamoswine more play time and powering it’s attacks up further.
Body Slam: A decently powered physical attack, with a 30% chance of paralyzing your foe, making them as slow as you after the curse.
These Swinub have two abilities:
Oblivious: Prevents the pokemon from be affected by the attract condition.
Snow Cloak: Raises it’s evasiveness by one level in a snow storm.

Pokémon Farming: Snover!
August 7, 2008 | 44 Comments
August 8, 2008
As we kick off our special “Winter in August” event here at Pokefarm, what better way to start than with the Pokémon that brings winter with him wherever he goes?
Snover is “can do” little Pokémon with the odd typing of Grass and Ice. While their speed is nothing to write home about, their offensive options are impressive despite a limited move selection. Their Snow Warning power creates a massive hail storm on the field with their first appearance that will never wind down of it’s own accord. With a fierce selection of attacks on both the physical and special end of the spectrum Snover and his Evolution Abomasnow can put a big dent in just about anyone if they get a chance to act.
These Snover are mixed sweepers with a variety of powerful physical and special attacks. While these mixed sweepers come in a random assortment of natures, all have a 31 IV in speed. As a mixed attacker appreciates just about any of their stats, all will be holding a Starf Berry (which boosts a random stat when Snover drops to 1/4 HP).
Their move sets are as follows:
Blizzard: With a mighty 120 power, and hitting both opponents in a double battle but not affecting your side, Blizzard takes it’s place among the most powerful attacks in the game. It’s normally rather lackluster 70 accuracy is wiped away in Snover’s Hail, not only making Blizzard automatically hit but also giving Snover a roughly 25% chance of hitting through Protect or Detect! You really don’t want to get attacked with a Auto-hitting, STABed Blizzard!
Wood Hammer: A strong special attack like Blizzard may give people the idea to bring a Pokémon with a good special defense to resist it. If they try it, you can hit them with Wood Hammer. With 120 power and 100 accuracy Wood Hammer’s powerful physical damage really packs a wallop. Just be careful as Snover takes backlash when he connects.
Ice Shard: One of Snover’s main weaknesses is his lackluster speed. With Ice Shard you will have attack priority to get those hits before your opponent has a chance to try anything funny.
Protect: Snover’s other main problem are all the type weaknesses he picks up from his Grass/Ice typing. With Protect you can scout out your opponent in relative safety for a round while the hail picks away at them.

It’s Summer and these Solrocks are bringing you a Sunny Day
July 5, 2008 | 47 Comments
Well summer is officially here and that means warm weather. These Solrocks are Adamant (+Att, -SpAtt) about you having a good time. Solrocks are Rock & Psychic type and all have the ability of Levitate that makes them immune to Ground attacks. In honor of the arrival of summer and of the Gemini Gym, these hot rocks will have the following moves that affect both opponents in a 2 on 2 match:
Stealth Rock:
Feel like summer has snuck up on you? Stealth rock creates an entry hazard that affects its opponents based on their vulnerability to rock attacks. A neutral attack will do 12.5 % damage and break focus bands. Fire pokemon trying to take advantage of Sunny Day will receive 25% damage and poor Charizard will take a whopping 50% damage.
Earthquake (Ground, Power 100, Acc 100):
Just like the Sun moves the Earth, these Solrocks can move the ground and cause super effective damage to fire, rock, electric, poison and steel types.
Rock Slide (Rock STAB, Power 75, Acc 90):
Summertime means heading to the pool and waterslide or down to the creek with the ole rope swing and rockslide. Rock Slide gives you a 30% chance of making your opponent flinch. While Solrock’s speed is only slightly better than average, it can learn Rock Polish at lvl 20 and boost its speed two stages.
Explosion (Normal, Power 250, Acc 100):
Summer means an explosion of fun. With Solrock’s resistances and immunities and ability to learn Cosmic Power at lvl 34 (raises both Defense and Special Defense) it can take a couple hits and explode taking out an opponent with it.
Each of these will carry with them the TM 11, Sunny Day. Sunny Day decreases the power of water attacks 50% and raises the power of Fire attacks by 50%. Pokémon with Chlorophyll Ability will double their speed and Solarbeamers will be able to attack in one turn.
All of these Solrocks will have 29+ IV in Attack and have one 29+ IV in Def or SpDef.

Pokemon Farming: Ninetails
June 26, 2008 | 65 Comments
This time in Pokemon Farming: Ninetails, the fox pokemon!
![]()
During my years playing pokemon I have found fascinating parallels between the game Pokemon and the Japanese Shinto Faith. I have spent much time researching the two and have found that pokemon has definitely been influenced by the different Kami, Yokai, or spirits in the Shinto religion.
For me the most amazing discovery was the Kitsune.
The Kitsune, kitsune translated means fox spirit. It is these Kistune of legend that are said to possess great magical powers. The more tails the Kitsune has the more powerful it is. With nine being near deity like status.
![]()
As you can see from the above woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Nintedo and Pokemon definitely have their creative inspirations.
The Kitsune also play a large role in shintoism in particular, they play an important part in worship at the Inari temple, or temple of rice. Over the centuries it is said that the Kitsune and Inari have developed a great bond. Where there is Inari there is Kitsune. Since foxes often have a playful nature it became common place to try and appease them to prevent any whimsy or tricks that may befall someone. While the foxes have not been directly worshipped there are shrines within Inari to pay them homage.
Within the temple of Inari there are two levels; an upper served by the male Kitsune Osusuki and the lower served by the female Kitsune Akomachi. As such each benevolent Kitsune I am giving will be named either by its male or female name.
Ninetails
nature: Modest
ability: flashfire
- Hypnosis to put your opponent to sleep.
- Dark Pulse to combat ghosts and psychics.
- Energy Ball counter ground and water pokemon.
- Fire Blast A high powered STAB attack.
hold item: Wide Lens
These Ninetails are ready to battle. In addition to the moves above you may teach them dream eater with a TM or use a heart scale to re-learn Nasty Plot. They have quite a diverse set of moves. The wide lens boosts the accuracy of all your moves, so both fire blast and hypnosis will have a much better chance of landing a hit.

Pokemon Farming: Horsea
June 22, 2008 | 52 Comments
This time in Pokemon Farming: Horsea, the dragon pokemon!
![]()
Horsea hails back all the way for the first generation of games, back when it was only him and Seadra. Kingdra was added to the mix in the second generation with the addition of Dragon Scales, and it created the monster we have today! Horsea levels up at level 32 to Seadra, than evovles into Kingdra when you attach a Dragon Scale and trade it.
I had a little dilemma with making a moveset for this versatile little swimmer, with its dual abilities being both equally awesome. It could have crazy critical hit power or it could be really fast, and they both have very different movesets. But I finally decided on speed and made up this little beast:
- Rain Dance–With ability Swift Swim, it not only increases power of water moves, it doubles speed
- Surf–Att 95 Acc. 100% STAB
- Ice Beam–Att 95 Acc. 100%
- Dragon Pulse–Att 90 Acc. 100% STAB (when it evolves into Kingdra)
All Horsea today will be Modest (+Sp.Att.,-Att.) and have the ability Swift Swim, which doubles speed during rain. Also, all Horseas given away today will have a Dragon Scale attached, so they will be ready to evolve for you!
So, want a Rain Dancin’ Sea Beasts? Here’s how!
