Looking at Pokemon: Elekid

February 14, 2009 | 3 Comments

Elekid

Elekid is an Electric-type Pokemon from the second generation Pokemon games. Introduced in the Crystal, Silver and Gold games Elekid sits at number 239 of the National Dex and falls into the Baby Pokemon group. This Pokemon can be captured in Pearl and Diamond by having a copy of Fire Red in the GBA slot while visiting Route 204-South Valley Windworks. If you are lucky the Elekid may even be holding an Electirizer!

Elekid comes with the ability Static: 30% chance of opponent becoming Paralyzed after using a direct attack.

Unless you have planned to use Elekid in your starting party you are not likely to get one in the early part of the game because the GBA trick only works after you defeat the Elite Four. The only way to get one prior to completing the single player portion of the game is through trading.

Because Elekid is a baby Pokemon you can not use it for breeding. It can evolve into an Electabuzz at level 30 and an Electivire at any point thereafter. Believe it or not its scores as actually quite good. Its base scores are even better than those of a Pikachu!

With Attack and Special Attack scores in the 60’s and a Speed of 95 Elekid can be a very good pick for your Pokemon team.

Elekid in Adventure Mode

Because Elekid is a baby Pokemon and the base stage for a third stage Pokemon a little bit of planning can go a long way in making this Pokemon a permanent addition to your battle roster.

A base Elekid will come with the moves Leer and Quick Attack. Even though you can’t catch one (and you are likely to breed better moves for it) for the purpose of this article we are going to assume you started with a base Elekid.

Because Elekid’s Attack and Special Attack are very close it pays to keep a mixture of attacks on this guy.

Thundershock (level 7) and Low Kick (level 10) will quickly become two of your main moves. Swift (level 19) is a very nice replacement for Quick Attack. With Elekid being one of the fastest Pokemon around at this point in the game it is more useful to have a move that can hit both opposing Pokemon in a double battle than having a weaker move that always strikes first but only hits one opposing Pokemon.

Shockwave (level 19) will replace Thundershock and Light Screen (level 25) can replace Leer. At level 28 we begin to enter the realm of hard choices.

When Thunderpunch (level 28) becomes available we find ourselves at the first crossroads. Up to now all of our electric attacks have been Special Attacks. Thunderpunch is the first physical Electric move that becomes available. It is more powerful than Shockwave but Shockwave is an automatic hit move. Thunderpunch is also the only physical Electric move in Elekids level-up move pool. I usually hold on to Shockwave at this point.

Discharge (level 34) is another hard choice. More powerful than Shockwave and also has the added effect of hitting all other combatants on the field, that includes your other Pokemon! If you normally have Elekid partner up with a Volt Absorb or a Ground-type Pokemon then Discharge is a good choice. If you don’t take Discharge (or even if you do) Thunderbolt (level 37) soon becomes available. This is followed by Screech (level 43) and the ever powerful (but not always accurate) Thunder (level 46).

Adventure Mode Move Breakdown:

Move 1: Leer -> Light Screen -> Screech
Move 2: Quick Attack -> Swift
Move 3: Thundershock -> Shockwave -> Thunderbolt
Move 4: Low Kick

Competitive Battling Elekid

Elekid is legal for the Little Battle format.

It is highly unlikely that you will ever find yourself in a situation where you choose to field a Elekid in a competitive situation. The only time you will have one of these guys on your team is when a tournament restricts you in some manner. With that in mind I offer the following move set.

Punched-Up Elekid

EV: Atk:252 / Spd: 252 / Def: 8
Nature: Adamant (Atk+/SpA-)

Move Pool:

Move 1: ThunderPunch (Electric 75/100)
Move 2: Ice Punch (Ice 75/100)
Move 3: Fire Punch (Fire 75/100)
Move 4: Brick Break (Fighting 75/100)

All of the moves on this guy are Physical and they are all 100% accurate with a base damage of 75. Thunderpunch is the only one that gets STAB. Ice Punch is there to take out those pesky Ground-type Pokemon who can do Elekid in quite quickly.

Other types of Elekid

I request that if you have any other ideas for an Elekid move pool to please leave them in the comments below. As good move pools are suggested I will update this article accordingly.

Zaprong’s Kids

February 8, 2009 | 38 Comments

In every Pokemon game there is always someone who is willing to trade a Pokémon to you. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness there was a trainer who would trade a very special Elekid to you. This Elekid was named Zaprong.

What made Zaprong special was his move set, it was full of physical attacks. Three of the moves were also egg moves.

Elekid is fairly even in the Attack(63) vs. Special Attack(65) department. Electabuzz continues this trend as Special Attack begins to gain a serious edge over Attack (83 vs. 95). Then came the 4th generation and a second evolution for Elekid. As an Electivire this Pokémon really shines when it comes to physical moves (123 vs. 95).

I know a lot of people are new to the world of Pokémon and some of those people enjoy going back and playing the older games to collect rare Pokémon while others prefer to live in the now. This farming event is for those who do not have time to go back. Besides, getting a Zaprong out of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is easily a 20+ hour endeavor.

Ability: Static: The opponent has a 30% chance of being induced with PARALYZE when using a direct attack against this Pokémon.

    Moves

  • Cross Chop (Fighting / 100)
  • Thunder Punch (Electric / 75 STAB)
  • Ice Punch (Ice 75)
  • Fire Punch (Fire / 75)

Greetings, Everyone!

Welcome to an extra special edition of the Friday Farmer’s Market: Second Harvest. My handle here is BryGuy. Tonight’s Farmer’s Market will be very different, so please be aware of the new conditions. Over the past number of weeks I have been offering pokemon with special movesets. Many people have been asking me for more of these pokes for various reasons. Tonight, I am going to clear out my boxes of any leftover pokemon from these events. The pokemon offered tonight are as follows:

  • Houndour (about 4 individuals)
  • Elekid (about 6 individuals)
  • Cyndaquil (about 10 individuals)
  • Swinub (about 9 individuals)

These are the same little guys I offered at previous Farmer’s Market Events. They all have amazing movesets, they are all 100% game-legal, and they were all bred by me using normal methods and loving care! Check my previous Farmer’s Market posts to see all the details about these awesome pokemon. Please be careful to follow the special procedures indicated below.

Here are the rules and procedures for tonight’s Second Harvest Farmer’s Market:

  • Enter my trainer name and friend code into your pal pad. My trainer name is BryGuy and my friend code is 3737 6015 6762.
  • Have a Pokemon ready in your party to trade to me. Today I will accept anything, but I like to be surprised! Feel free to trade me something you think is cool or unique. It is especially nice if the Pokemon is holding something (berries, items, etc.)!
  • Post a comment to this article saying which ONE of these pokemon you would like. I will issue them on a first-post, first present, basis. If you are not ready in the WiFi Club when I come to trade with you, I will move to the next person on my list. You may need to accept the pokemon offered to you. There will probably not be much choice in terms of male or female, etc.
  • In your post requesting a pokemon, MAKE SURE YOU CLEARLY AND ACCURATELY LIST YOUR TRAINER NAME FROM YOUR GAME AND YOUR FRIEND CODE. EVEN IF WE HAVE TRADED BEFORE, PLEASE LIST THIS INFORMATION. I had to clear my Pal Pad a few times so most of my previously entered “Pals” have been removed. I will enter as many of friend codes before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
  • In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:30 pm eastern time (6:30 pm central time) on Friday, August 31, 2007. Please note this new time for tonight!
  • When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
  • I will not be on early tonight.
  • Please be patient. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more pokemon. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!
  • The Farmer’s Market will run from 7:30 to 8:30 pm EDT.
  • I am only prepared to trade the pokemon listed above. Please do not ask for other Pokemon. I will not be trading anything other than what I have listed tonight. Thanks.

I am looking forward to trading. See you at the Farmer’s Market!

Pokemon Farming: “Punched-Up” Elekids

July 19, 2007 | 81 Comments

Elekid Electabuzz Electrivire

Greetings, Everyone!

Welcome to Thursday of “Farmer’s Favorites Week”! My handle here is BryGuy and I will be heading this evening’s Pokemon Farmer’s Market featuring Elekid. Elekid is the “baby” form of Electabuzz. Electabuzz made its first appearance in the original Pokemon games (Red and Blue). Obviously an electric-type Pokemon, this yellow and black, human-like Pokemon always seemed to have so much potential, yet it never seemed to catch on as a “big-hitter”. Maybe its original, somewhat disappointing stats in HP and Defense had something to do with it not showing up on winning teams. Electabuzz’s future may now be changed with the release of the Diamond and Pearl games. A new evolutionary step has been introduced. If you trade Electabuzz while it’s holding an “electirizer” it will evolve into Electivire. Electrivire still doesn’t have base HP and Defense stats to write home about, but its base attack stats are pretty impressive. Electivire should be a lot of fun to experiment with to see where it fits in the Pokemon universe.

How do you get an Elekid to train and evolve? If you are playing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and you have become Pokemon League Champion, and you own a copy of the Fire Red GBA game, insert the Fire Red game into the GBA slot of your DS while playing Diamond or Pearl and head to the Valley Windworks and cruise around the tall grass until an Elekid finally pops up! How do you get an electirizer to evolve an Electabuzz into an Electivire? In the Diamond game every wild Elekid will have a 50% chance of it holding an electirizer. In the Pearl game the chances are quite a bit lower: each wild Elekid has a 5% chance of holding an electirizer (yes, I said: five). Instead of hunting down a random, basic Elekid, you could trade with me for a really “punched-up”, extra-special Elekid!!!

I have bred a fine batch of Elekids and I am looking forward to sharing them with all of you! The Elekids I have bred for this occasion have an amazing set of learned egg-moves (these are moves that the Pokemon can not learn through leveling-up). Through a process of multi-stepped, carefully-controlled breeding, I have created Elekids that have the following set of moves built-in:

Elekid Moves

  • Thunder Punch
  • Fire Punch
  • Ice Punch
  • Dynamic Punch

What can’t this little guy totally hit?! These Elekids are 100% game-legal. They were not hacked in any way. The move set was obtained through normal breeding and careful study! You will be on your own in acquiring a electirizer. If you play the Diamond game, this shouldn’t be too difficult. If you are playing the Pearl game (like I am) you may have to trade for one or be very patient (I have obtained a couple, but not enough to give away – I do have quite a few magmarizers, however).

Please feel free to turn up the loudness on your game so we can talk back and forth during the trade, making selection easier. By the way, you don’t need a headset to talk. Your DS built-in microphone will do the trick. If you would rather not talk and select a Elekid, I will pick one for you.

Here are the rules and procedures for tonight’s Farmer’s Market:

  1. Enter my trainer name and friend code into your pal pad. My trainer name is BryGuy and my friend code is 3737 6015 6762.
  2. Have a Pokemon ready in your party to trade to me. Today I will accept anything but I like to be surprised! Feel free to trade me something you think is cool or unique. It is especially nice if the Pokemon is holding something (berries, items, etc.)!
  3. Post a comment to this article saying that you would like an Elekid. Make sure you clearly and accurately list your trainer name from your game and your friend code. Even if we have traded before, please list this information. I can’t guarantee that you are still in my Pal Pad. I will enter as many of these before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
  4. In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:00 pm eastern time (6:00 pm central time) on Thursday, July 19, 2007.
  5. When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
  6. If you can, be early. I may be online early.
  7. Please be patient. I should have plenty of Elekids. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more Elekids. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!
  8. The Farmer’s Market will run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm EDT.
  9. I am only prepared to trade specially prepared Elekids. Please do not ask for other Pokemon. I will not be trading anything other than Elekids tonight. Thanks.

I am looking forward to trading. See you at the Farmer’s Market!
