Johto Starters: Cyndaquil
May 11, 2009 | 134 Comments
With the April showers fading away it is time for the weather to warm up and here is the second of the Johto starters, Cyndaquil. I offer these because they represent to me what a friend and traveling companion should be. Cyndaquil is a Fire pokémon and is not found in the Diamond/Pearl or Platinum games. Although these Mild (+Attack, – Defense) natured Cyndaquils aren’t that powerful yet, they will soon evolve into a mighty Typhlosions. They all have the ability of Blaze, which means when their backs are against the wall and their HP is low, their red hot Fire power increases by 50%.
The move-set represents how good of a traveling buddy they can be:
Flamethrower (Fire, STAB Power 95, Acc 100)
Strong and reliable, just like these little guys
Covet (Normal, Power 40, Acc 100)
Isn’t it nice to get presents for no reason? With this move Cyndaquil can take items and berries that are held by wild pokémon and give them to you. It also carries a whopping 40 PP which makes him a great companion if you like to chain as he can learns Quick Attack at level 13 (30 PP) and Cut (30 PP) as an HM move allowing you to stay out longer in the grassy patches.
Sunny Day (Fire, Makes the sun shine for 5 rounds)
If you are feeling gloomy these little guys can turn your gray skies blue. The bright sunshine raises the power of Fire moves by 50% and lessens the damage of Water moves by 50%.
Dig (Ground, Power 80, Acc 100)
If you find yourself in a jam, these Cyndaquil can often dig you out of it. Dig can be used in caves and temples to take you back to their opening which can be helpful if your team is running low on energy or if you can’t wait to check out your new legendary. Dig gives you a super-effective attack against rock and electric types as well as other fire types, but don’t use this move against pokémon that know Earthquake or Magnitude as it will double the power of that attack if you are underground.

Pokemon Farming: Forum Special: Cyndaquil
March 3, 2008 | 82 Comments

Noctem’s Special Flamin’ Cyndaquil.
So, Cynaquil is a little weasel-mouse with a with a fiery personality once provoked. They’re usually timid but watch out, they’ll set their opponents a blaze!
So today, as a special treat, I’m offering them to you. Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava and later Typhlosion, which can be a great asset to any team as a lead or late game special sweeper. You can send it into battle alone or give it a Choice Scarf and watch it wreak havoc.
All of these little guys will be of the Timid(speed+,-attack) nature, to give your pokemon the extra speed it needs and will have the ability Blaze, fire attacks will gain a power boost if Cyndaquil’s HP falls below 1/3. So come adopt one of these little guys today for all of your Barbecuing needs, and roast your opponent’s pokemon.
Move set:
Eruption- An extremely powerful move that’s best used as the start of the battle, since it’s most powerful before Cyndaquil takes any damage. A 150 base power attack, plus STAB is a scary sight to behold.
Lava Plume- A secondary attack to use once Cyndaquil has taken some damage. While not as powerful, it still is a decently powered STABed move. So "Why not choose Flame Thrower?," you ask. The reason I chose Lava Plume is because of the 30% chance of causing burns, crippling physical sweepers, and it generally causes a nice amount of passive damage.
Hidden Power- While the power and type depends on the user’s IVs, hidden power is a very surprising attack. To check your pokemon’s Hidden Power Type, you’ll have to use an IV calculator.
Dig- It gives Cyndaquil some type coverage against rock types.
Rules:
Comment with your Name and Friend Code
Even if we have traded before, I will need your information again.
Get a Pokemon to trade (preferably non-Sinnoh, Rare Candy, Heart Scales, and TMs are always appreciated.) Do not trade me eggs!
Be in the Wi-Fi zone at 4pm PST (GMT-8:00) on Monday March 10th
Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.

Special Pokemon Farmer’s Market: Second Harvest
August 31, 2007 | 87 Comments

Greetings, Everyone!
Welcome to an extra special edition of the Friday Farmer’s Market: Second Harvest. My handle here is BryGuy. Tonight’s Farmer’s Market will be very different, so please be aware of the new conditions. Over the past number of weeks I have been offering pokemon with special movesets. Many people have been asking me for more of these pokes for various reasons. Tonight, I am going to clear out my boxes of any leftover pokemon from these events. The pokemon offered tonight are as follows:
- Houndour (about 4 individuals)
- Elekid (about 6 individuals)
- Cyndaquil (about 10 individuals)
- Swinub (about 9 individuals)
These are the same little guys I offered at previous Farmer’s Market Events. They all have amazing movesets, they are all 100% game-legal, and they were all bred by me using normal methods and loving care! Check my previous Farmer’s Market posts to see all the details about these awesome pokemon. Please be careful to follow the special procedures indicated below.
Here are the rules and procedures for tonight’s Second Harvest Farmer’s Market:
- Enter my trainer name and friend code into your pal pad. My trainer name is BryGuy and my friend code is 3737 6015 6762.
- Have a Pokemon ready in your party to trade to me. Today I will accept anything, but I like to be surprised! Feel free to trade me something you think is cool or unique. It is especially nice if the Pokemon is holding something (berries, items, etc.)!
- Post a comment to this article saying which ONE of these pokemon you would like. I will issue them on a first-post, first present, basis. If you are not ready in the WiFi Club when I come to trade with you, I will move to the next person on my list. You may need to accept the pokemon offered to you. There will probably not be much choice in terms of male or female, etc.
- In your post requesting a pokemon, MAKE SURE YOU CLEARLY AND ACCURATELY LIST YOUR TRAINER NAME FROM YOUR GAME AND YOUR FRIEND CODE. EVEN IF WE HAVE TRADED BEFORE, PLEASE LIST THIS INFORMATION. I had to clear my Pal Pad a few times so most of my previously entered “Pals” have been removed. I will enter as many of friend codes before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
- In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:30 pm eastern time (6:30 pm central time) on Friday, August 31, 2007. Please note this new time for tonight!
- When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
- I will not be on early tonight.
- Please be patient. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more pokemon. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!
- The Farmer’s Market will run from 7:30 to 8:30 pm EDT.
- I am only prepared to trade the pokemon listed above. Please do not ask for other Pokemon. I will not be trading anything other than what I have listed tonight. Thanks.
I am looking forward to trading. See you at the Farmer’s Market!

Pokemon Farmer’s Market: Cyndaquil
August 2, 2007 | 155 Comments
Greetings, Everyone!
Welcome to Thursday of “Johto Week”! My handle here is BryGuy and I will be heading this evening’s Pokemon Farmer’s Market featuring one of the starters from the Gold, Silver and Crystal games: Cyndaquil.
After brooding over a series of possible, crazy, twisted move sets, I could not bring myself to actually breed any of them into the baby Cyndaquils. I wanted these little pokes to be able to grow up big and strong and maybe take one of the six spaces on someone’s team.
Cyndaquil and Cyndaquil’s ultimate evolution, Typhosion, has low defense and low special defense stats. Its attack stats are pretty anemic as well. This guy has strong speed and strong special attack, it likes FIRE and it has the ability “Blaze” which amps up the fire type moves when HP is low. So I decided to do the only humane thing for these little Cyndies: Go Fire! And I mean, BIG FIRE!!! My baby Cyndies will have the following blazing moveset:

- ERUPTION
- FLAMETHROWER
- FLARE BLITZ
- DOUBLE-EDGE (in case you need something different: a big normal type attack)
Pretty nice moves for a little, level 1 fire-mouse (or whatever it is?!)! As Cyndaquil grows and evolves you may decide to replace some of these moves with something else, but I thought these Cyndaquil should start with a fighting chance!
These Cyndaquil are 100% game-legal. They were not hacked in any way. The move set was obtained through normal breeding and careful study!
Please feel free to turn up the loudness on your game so we can talk back and forth during the trade, making selection easier. By the way, you don’t need a headset to talk. Your DS built-in microphone will do the trick. If you would rather not talk and select a Cyndaquil, I will pick one for you.
Here are the rules and procedures for tonight’s Farmer’s Market:
- Enter my trainer name and friend code into your pal pad. My trainer name is BryGuy and my friend code is 3737 6015 6762.
- Have a Pokemon ready in your party to trade to me. Today I will accept anything but I like to be surprised! Feel free to trade me something you think is cool or unique. It is especially nice if the Pokemon is holding something (berries, items, etc.)!
- Post a comment to this article saying that you would like a Cyndaquil. MAKE SURE YOU CLEARLY AND ACCURATELY LIST YOUR TRAINER NAME FROM YOUR GAME AND YOUR FRIEND CODE. EVEN IF WE HAVE TRADED BEFORE, PLEASE LIST THIS INFORMATION. I can’t guarantee that you are still in my Pal Pad. I will enter as many of these before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
- In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:00 pm eastern time (6:00 pm central time) on Thursday, August 2, 2007.
- When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
- If you can, be early. I may be online early.
- Please be patient. I should have plenty of Cyndaquil. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more Cyndaquil. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!
- The Farmer’s Market will run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm EDT.
- I am only prepared to trade specially prepared Cyndaquil. Please do not ask for other Pokemon. I will not be trading anything other than Cyndaquil tonight. Thanks.
I am looking forward to trading. See you at the Farmer’s Market!

Pokemon Farming: Gold, Silver and Crystal Starters
June 18, 2007 | 32 Comments

Due to popular demand I am bringing back the Gold, Silver and Crystal starter offer.
This offer includes Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile. If you want one of these three Pokemon all you need to do is ask in the comments and provide the relevant friend code information.
Now is the time when you are probably wondering, What does he want in trade? I’m not looking for much but, one thing I do need is berries. I don’t care what Pokemon you trade to me but I need the following berries for my berry farming project. I don’t have the names handy so I’ll just list them by ID number:
Berries needed
37 – 39, 41-49, 52, 60+
If you have a berry with the above ID numbers I would greatly appreciate getting it in a trade.
As an added bonus each Pokemon will be holding a berry with an ID number greater than 30.
My information:
Trainer: Ezekial
Friend Code: 0559 3242 3898
- Instructions
- Have something to trade to me
- Be in the Wi-Fi zone by 7:00PM EDT (New York Time)
- Be ready
PS: The 12:10PM posting time is no longer going to be used. Since this is an open trade offer I no longer feel the need to set a specific time for these posts to appear on the site.
Pokemon Farming: Cyndaquil
May 21, 2007 | 433 Comments
Cyndaquil is one of the starter Pokemon from the Crystal, Gold and Silver games. This Pokemon was also made available in the Game Cube game Pokemon Colosseum. There is also a special way to get one of the three Crystal, Gold and Silver starter Pokemon in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness as well as Pokemon Leaf Green/Fire Red and Pokemon Emerald.
All of those games, except for Colosseum, require you to do something time consuming to get a Cyndaquil. In fact, Cyndaquil is not even available in Colosseum but you can catch its evolved form and breed it with a Ditto to get a Cyndaquil in one of the GBA games.
Because of all of that many people are unlikely to gain a Cyndaquil of their own without a serious investment of time. Fear not! Since I have now opened up the Pokemon Farm I am prepared to list my first batch of fresh Pokemon for your trading pleasure.
Our second line-up includes these six Cyndaquil. All of them are level one and were hatched in my Pearl game.

If you want one of these six Pokemon just leave a comment below and let me know (by ID#) which one you want. Be sure to include your Friend Code and trainer name. I am also willing to rename them to whatever name you choose prior to trading.
I will be posting these articles at 12:10 PM EDT (New York City time) and any and all trades will be performed in the evening between the hours of 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM EDT.
My Friend Code is: 0559 3242 3898
My Trainer Name is: Ezekial
Why Ezekial? I have restarted my Pokemon games so many times that I need to use a new name each time so I can quickly tell where a Pokemon came from.
Now, just so everyone is clear on the procedure here is how it works:
1) Pick the one you want
2) Place a comment on the blog with your: Trainer Name, Friend Code and ID# of the Pokemon you want. If you want a custom name please let me know as well.
3) Keep an eye on the blog because first time comment leavers are moderated. This means someone may have left a comment that you can not see before you. Because of this I suggest you list the Pokemon in which order you would like to get them (i.e. I want ID #2. If not available then 3, 4, 5, 6, 1.)
4) Enter my Wi-Fi friend code into your DS
5) Be ready at 7:00PM EDT sharp.
