Each time you have a battle there is a 50% chance that the PKRS will spread to the poke right next to it. Once a poke has been infected it cannot be reinfected. The virus stays active (infectious) when the infected poke is stored in a box. The beneficial effects of the PKRS are permanent for the infected pokemon, but it will "heal" from the infection (won't be able to spread it anymore) if it is kept in your party when the clock passes 12:00 noon or midnight. This will usually happen within 24 to 48 hours. It doesn't matter if the game is on or not, the internal clock will know if the infected poke is in party at noon or midnight. I advise that you spread the virus around, but always keep an actively infected pokemon in a box so you can bring it out to infect new pokemon you want to train. Just make sure the pokemon that you want to remain actively infected is in a box before the clock strikes 12:00. After 12:00 passes it should be safe to take them out again.
