Pokemon Breeding Tips: Baby Evolutions

May 15, 2007

If you like Pokemon then you are probably aware of the baby evolution Pokemon that exist in the games. The thing about these Pokemon is that they are not always easy to breed for or catch in the wild. In fact, the Pokemon in this article all have one thing in common; they need an item to make an egg.

Baby evolution Pokemon were added to the game when the Silver, Gold and Crystal games came out for the Game Boy. Unlike their more evolved forms, baby Pokemon are not known for being fighters as much as for just being cute. Because of this their abilities and move sets are not geared towards winning battles but are instead aimed at avoiding damage.

Another important thing to understand about baby evolution Pokemon is that they can not breed. Think about it, they are babies not full grown Pokemon!

Not all baby evolution Pokemon require one of the parents to hold an item but these do:

  • Azuril (Sea Incense)
  • Bonsly (Rock Insense)
  • Budew (Rose Incense)
  • Chingling (Pure Incense)
  • Happiny (Luck Incense)
  • Mantyke (Wave Incense)
  • Mime Jr. (Odd Incense)
  • Munchlax (Full Incense)
  • Wynaut (Lax Incense)

One thing to consider when breeding for baby evolution Pokemon is why. Why do you want the baby evolution? If you are looking for a power team of Pokemon for the Battle Tower you might want to avoid going through the baby evolution stage. It’s a well established fact that the higher the evolved form the better the ability scores. Skipping the baby step can provide you with a much tougher Pokemon in the end.

On the other hand, if you are going for contests, you should probably go with the baby evolution Pokemon. What they lack in power they make up for in cuteness. There is also the case that some moves can only be learned while a Pokemon is in its baby form.

I hope the information in this articles has helped you in some way. Feel free to leave a comment or question below.

Actually, it doesn’t matter whether you start from baby or from evolved form. Ability scores will remain the same at any level in the evolved form.

well i have a breeding tip for you lot here, its about evee’s evelutions right, you first get an evee (if you are on diamond or pearl you can get an evee from a house on the right, near the poke center in hearthrome if you have completed the game you can get an evee from her)then you go to the day care in solace town, migrate a ditto (feamale or male)if it is a male ditto then you would need a feamale evee, the you leave them in the day care the next day go back there and you will have an egg (it will be an evee)and keep on reapeting that and once you have 3 you can use all the evoulotion stones on them exept moon, sun, leaf stones i hope this tip healps you

Latios10, let me start by saying this: Ditto is a no gender, strictly breeder pokemon. Regardless of gender for the eevee you breed, it will always produce an egg.

Here are some real breeding tips:

{+} Pokemon breeding perfects itself through generation breeding. The first gen. will always be your testing generation based on stat performance straight from the egg. 1,2,3,4 on any stats are terrible and should never be used for breeding. 5 is average, and should only be used if you have no better stats. 6 is good, and should be used if you have no better stats (and also if it’s the predominant number). 7,8 is wonderful and unless every other stat is 4 or below then you want to breed that pokemon and try to get predominant 7-8’s down the line. Though this usually only comes out after excessive and patient breeding.

{+} Moves carry on through generations from the MALE side. So if you have a move you want passed down to your baby pokemon, make sure it’s the male that has it. If you’re cross breeding pokemon, remember that the female of whatever pokemon you breed will be what the baby is (unless you use a ditto).

{+} Remember what strengths and weaknesses your pokemon possess. If you are breeding, let’s say, an Abra (I use this example because he relies solely on his Sp. Attack) then you’re going to want to have a baby that already has high Sp. Attack and Speed, regardless of other stats which just don’t grow naturally. Opposite that, we have something that relies mostly on attack such as Machop, who has a naturally low Sp. Attack and a naturally high Attack.

These are just some of the basics for becoming a good breeder. Remember that a good breeder knows how to utelize good pokemon, and good pokemon make for fun battles and better strategy. For more of my tips and tricks, e-mail me at Author_Chick@hotmail.com
