WiiWare Preview: Pokémon Rumble
September 10, 2009 | 1 Comment

Earlier this year Nintendo released a Pokémon title in Japan for the Nintendo Wii called Melee! Pokémon Scramble. This Wiiware title has been renamed Pokémon Rumble and will soon (no release date yet) be available in North America.
In this game you send your Pokemon out into the wild to train and gather items and money. Once you have trained your Pokemon to a sufficient level it is off to the Battle Royal!
Supporting up to 4 players in a real-time battle format should make for some very interesting game play.
This title is produced by the same company who created Pokémon Ranch so expect the same sort of graphics.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Update
August 10, 2009 | Leave a Comment

As we near the Japanese release date of the new HeartGold and SoulSilver games scheduled for September 12, 2009 more and more details are being revealed about these much anticipated remakes of the classic Pokémon Gold and Silver games.
Several legendaries not previously available in the Diamond, Pearl or Platinum versions will make their appearance in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Lugia is the legendary bird available exclusively in SoulSilver and the fiery Ho-Oh can be found only in HeartGold. The legendary dogs, Entei, Suicune and Raikou, can be found in both games in the Brass Tower and after you confront them, they will roam Johto just as the legendary birds do in Platinum.
After beating the elite four, the game will become even more interesting as recently it was revealed that Kyogre will be catchable in HeartGold and Groudon in SoulSilver with ability to confront Rayquaza by bringing the two together. Kanto, where the pokémon adventures began, can be accessed by ship and you will have the opportunity to add Mewtwo to your collection of legendaries.
Similar to the Regigigas giveaway that allowed Platinum users the confront and capture Regice, Regirock and Registeel, having the Arceus event pokémon in your party will bring Cynthia from Sinnoh to the Shinto Ruins and allow you to obtain Palkia, Dialga or Giratina at level 1 each with a special move that they can’t normal learn. A Pikachu-colored Pichu is being given away with pre-sales for the newest Pokemon movie in Japan and it is said to unlock another area of Johto as does the Jirachi that was given away by Nintendo Zone in Japan.
While the US release isn’t scheduled until Spring 2010, the excitement is building for these new adventures and hopefully we should soon see the release of Dr. Oak’s letter allowing us to catch Shaymin in the wild and our own chance to get Arceus and the special Pichu this Winter.

Pokemon VGC Regionals: Nashville
June 15, 2009 | 9 Comments
This past weekend, The Pokemon Company International made a stop in Nashville, Tennessee for their final Regional stop in the Pokemon Video Game Championships. The event was held inside the historic Gaylord Opry in Opryland, just north of Nashville. There, more than 350 players from around the nation signed up for the Senior Division early Saturday morning. Of those who registered only 128 were chosen in each age division so 256 players were chosen and of those 8 will be going to National Championships in St. Louis.

Forum members Taterbud and I(MissingNo.) arrived late Friday night. It was quite a long trip from Northeastern Indiana. Both of us were exhausted, yet excited about being in Nashville. We picked our spot for the night, and then went out for some food and exploring. The area we ended up in revolved completely around the Opryland. Hotels and restaurants were the only places around, besides a few small shops. However, inside the actual Opryland was a mall, movie theater, and of course the large hotel and convention center.
Nashville was also hosting its large Country Music Festival this past weekend. Each hotel was booked, and the city was full of people. Downtown on Saturday, there were multiple tents set up with live music. Many of the streets were closed off, and every parking spot was taken.
Back at the hotel, Taterbud and I were both exhausted. She took a short swim in the hotel pool, then we both packed it in for an early night, knowing we’d have to be across the street at the Gaylord by 8:30 in the morning. That next morning, Taterbud found out that I took no chances of sleeping in. First the hotel alarm clock went off, followed by my DSi alarm clock, followed by a wake-up call, and then my constant nudges. We got a quick breakfast free of charge from the hotel, checked out, then headed on over. I hadn’t realized how big the place actually was until I found myself lost. We spotted a group of people that we suspected were Pokemon fanatics…. the Ash costume was a dead giveaway. Inside, there was a guide standing near the entrance wearing a green Pokemon Staff t-shirt. He directed us to follow the previous crowd around the inside of the Gaylord to the area where Nintendo had set up their event.
When we got there, we found ourselves at the very back of a long long line of registrants. The line moved quickly, and we were both eventually registered and given a number and a matching wristband with the number and corresponding Pokemon. Inside there were multiple balloon representations of D/P/Pt Pokemon. We also saw some characters as costumes walking about and taking pictures with children. There was a snack bar set up, which we avoided. We wandered a bit observing some of the convention center as we waiting for the selections to be posted. Around 10am, the group was all called to take a massive picture, followed by a dance competition. Pikachu was seen getting his groove on. And then, the selections were posted on the screens scattered about the hall.
Neither Taterbud or I were selected to participate. It was a very disappointing feeling. I had spent a couple of months breeding and training for this event. In fact, as soon as the event was posted on the forums, I gave Taterbud a call and told her that we were going, and I started planning right then and there. Yet, the trip wasn’t a total waste. As soon as we found out we weren’t accepted into the competition, we immediately got in line for the main reason on why we went…. Shiny Milotics! These were given out via a GBA slot device. This way, no one could pick up more than one. Once you recieved your Milotic, your wrist band was cut so that they knew not to give you another. We saw brief glimpses of a couple of battles on the screens while we stood in line. Immediately the first person was eliminated, and I was just happy it wasn’t me.
We received our Milotics and proceeded out of the Nintendo area and back out into the rest of the Opry. It was a beautiful place, with shops and restaurants and hotel rooms, with balconies that allowed the residents to observe the people below. We found our way back to the car after exploring and taking pictures. It was an awesome experience, and I can’t wait until next year when I can try again. At least now I have a team already bred and trained. Plus we both ended up with VGC09 Shiny Milotics, which less than 1500 were estimated to have been given away total at all the events combined. We started our journy back home, waving goodbye to Nashville, and eventually Tennessee.
More pictures can be seen here: MissingNo.’s Photo Album
Editor’s note: A few minor corrections were required after posting. It was The Pokemon Company International and not Nintendo that held the event and the 128 number applied to each age group and was not a total count. We apologize for the mistake and those who made the mistake have been sentenced to five minutes in a room with a hungry Munchlax whilst covered in Honey and sprinkled with Poffins.

Face Off: Which Game Had the Best Starter Pokemon?
May 2, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Face Off is a new feature here on Pokefarm. There are no right or wrong answers, instead we are looking to the membership to pick a side and defend it!
We encourage you to put your best argument forward and defend it from the other side. For our first installment of this feature we ask the question: which game had the best starter Pokemon? Let’s take a moment to review.
Red/Blue/Yellow – The original Pokemon games (including their GBA remakes) introduced the franchise with the Pokemon Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. You could technically call Pikachu a starter because of Yellow version but he’s really more of an exception and will not used in this discussion.
Gold/Silver/Crystal – The second Pokemon series was on the GBC and featured Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile.
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald – When Pokemon moved to the GBA we got Treeko, Mudkip and Torchic.
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum – With the latest series moving onto the DS we got Turtwig, Piplup and Chimchar.
We will not be discussing the Pokemon games that appeared on the GameCube.
So, I invite you to put your best argument forward as to why you think a particular set of Pokemon are the best. Have at it and please, keep it civil.
Discuss – comments are not active here. you must be a member of the forum to take part in the Face Off.
Pokémon Platinum to hit stores on March 22, 2009
March 16, 2009 | 9 Comments

REDMOND, Wash., March 16, 2009 – The March 22 launch of the Pokémon™ Platinum Version video game for the Nintendo DS™ system is almost upon us, and Pokémon fans are already buzzing with anticipation. This new game in the storied franchise brings a host of new features, including the mysterious new Distortion world, never-seen-before forms of powerful Pokémon, exciting online games in the new Wi-Fi Plaza and strategic battles that are the hallmark of the main Pokémon game series.
“The Pokémon franchise has been a force since it came to the United States more than 10 years ago,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “To date, our two most recent games in the core Pokémon series, Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, have sold more than 5.3 million in the United States alone. Pokémon Platinum Version brings fans a set of new challenges, fun and entertainment.”

On March 21, Nintendo will host a blowout launch celebration for the game at the Nintendo World store in New York. Pokémon fans will be able to demo and purchase the game a day before it’s available in other retail stores. Rockefeller Plaza will become a Pokémon fan’s paradise with a myriad of Pokémon activities, including game-play kiosks showing off the game and its online capabilities, the “Pokémon Platinum Plunge,” where Pokémon fans will get a chance to win a copy of the Pokémon Platinum Version video game, and opportunities to take photos with their favorite Pokémon characters.
Consumers enjoy Pokémon games, in part, for both their social aspect and their re-playability. For instance, in the new Wi-Fi Plaza, up to 20 players with wireless broadband access from around the world can connect together to experience mini-games, take part in parades and even see a fireworks show. And players who visit the Global Terminal can post their Pokémon for trade to other players around the world. This allows for a greater variety of Pokémon that a player can collect, and also allows players to get Pokémon from other countries, which have become sought-after by many fans. Also the new Global Terminal allows players to use a new item, the Vs. Recorder, to save and post “videos” of their best battles online for everyone to see.
KEY INFORMATION

- A new world has appeared in the Sinnoh region: the mysterious new Distortion World, where the normal rules of Time and Space don’t apply.
- Discover never-before-seen forms of powerful Pokémon. Beyond Time and Space lies a Pokémon unlike any other: Giratina™ Origin Forme. Players can witness an epic encounter between Legendary Pokémon.
- Travel across the Sinnoh region catching, training and battling with Pokémon.
- Players who have wireless broadband access can explore the new Wi-Fi Plaza, a virtual Pokémon amusement park filled with activities, including three new mini-games where up to four players can compete at once. Up to 20 players from around the world can connect together in the Wi-Fi Plaza to experience games, take part in parades and even see a fireworks show.
- The Global Terminal is where online players from all around the world can come to post their Pokémon for trade to other players without ever meeting or talking to them. This allows for a greater variety of Pokémon a player can collect, and also allows them to get Pokémon from other countries. Players can also use the new Vs. Recorder, which allows them to save and post “videos” of their most exciting battles online for everyone to see.
Enhanced Storyline: New characters add to the story, including Looker, a member of the International Police who is in pursuit of Team Galactic. Looker helps players throughout their adventure. Team Galactic has a nefarious scheme: They turn their sights on the Legendary Pokémon of Sinnoh – Dialga™ and Palkia™ – when the powerful Giratina also enters the picture (all three Pokémon appear together in this game for the first time).

How to progress through the game: Travel across the Sinnoh region catching, training and battling with Pokémon. Players must stop the evil plans of Team Galactic on their journey to become a Pokémon Master.
Additional Features: Battle and trade Pokémon via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. Players can connect with Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version (each sold separately) or import Pokémon from the Game Boy™ Advance games (Pokémon Ruby Version, Pokémon Sapphire Version, Pokémon FireRed Version, Pokémon LeafGreen Version and Pokémon Emerald Version) to complete their Pokédex.
Characters: Giratina, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup and hundreds of other Pokémon.
New Pokémon Formes:
- Giratina Origin Forme: In the Distortion World, Giratina appears in its new Origin Forme, exclusive to Pokémon Platinum Version. The Origin Forme features different attributes than those the character had in Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, including the Ability Levitate, which makes Giratina immune to Ground-type attacks. Giratina will revert to its Altered Forme (seen in Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version) once a player encounters and catches it in Pokémon Platinum Version, but players may transform Giratina back into its Origin Forme by having it hold a special item found in the game.
- Shaymin’s Sky Forme: Shaymin™, a secret character introduced in the latest Pokémon movie, will also have a new Forme exclusive to Pokémon Platinum Version. Shaymin was made available to Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version fans at a distribution event at Toys ‘R’ Us stores in the United States. In Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, Shaymin can only appear in its Land Forme. Once Pokémon Platinum Version is released, players may trade Shaymin from their Pokémon Diamond Version or Pokémon Pearl Version game and use a special item to transform it into its exclusive Pokémon Platinum Version Sky Forme. Shaymin’s Sky Forme is both a Grass and Flying type, while its Land Forme is only a Grass-type.
Global Terminal: The Wi-Fi Global Trade Station (GTS) has been expanded in Pokémon Platinum Version, and is now called the Global Terminal. Players post Pokémon they want to trade on a board, and can browse through Pokémon other players have posted. If two people agree to trade the Pokémon they want for the one they posted, the trade will be complete, and players will be notified the next time they log on to the Global Terminal in the game. There are also a number of upgrades included with the Global Terminal in Pokémon Platinum Version, including the new Vs. Recorder, which allows players to save and post “videos” of their most exciting battles online for everyone to see.
New Locations:
Distortion World – As the story unfolds, players will encounter the mysterious new Distortion World, an area unlike any seen in a Pokémon game before. The normal rules of Time and Space don’t apply to this world. Players leap from pieces of land suspended in midair, walk sideways and even upside-down. The Distortion World, where the powerful Giratina Origin Forme resides, is somehow connected to the regular Pokémon world.

The Battle Frontier – A new, improved Battle Frontier has been added to Sinnoh. It contains four new battle facilities in addition to Battle Tower for Trainers to challenge, each with its own special rules. The new battle formats in each new facility allow players to challenge themselves in new ways.
Wi-Fi Plaza – When players first arrive at the Wi-Fi Plaza, they will be loaned a Tap Toy for use in the Plaza. To play with the Tap Toy, players touch a button on the touch screen to make different light and sound effects. Players can trade Tap Toys with other players in the Plaza. Also, players can get upgrades to their Tap Toys by doing well in Plaza Games. The Plaza Games consist of three mini-games that can be played by up to four players at a time. As closing time draws near, exciting things happen in the Plaza, including a fireworks show and Pokémon float parade.
Attention Pokémon Rangers, Shaymin has been spotted in Almia!
March 2, 2009 | 5 Comments

From now until April 30th, Pokémon Rangers from the US can download the newest special mission in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.
In this mission, “For the Bride and Shaymin!“, you begin with an invitation to a wedding and are rushed off to Altru Park. The wedding is interrupted though when Team Dim Sun shows up and the flower bouquet runs away. After searching through the flower beds of Pueltown and battling the nefarious Team Dim Sun goons with their miniremo units, you get a chance to capture Shaymin and see the happy couple get married.
Similar to the extra missions “Dialga in Hia Valley!?” and “Palkia in Haruba Desert!?“, Shaymin cannot be transferred to your Diamond or Pearl game, but does show up in your browser after the capture. To download the mission you must be a level 10 ranger in Shadows of Almia and have a wireless connection. Simply Click on Ranger Net on the opening page, then Seek New Missions, and then Search by Nintendo WFC. Although the Darkrai, Manaphy and Riolu missions are no longer available for download, the Palkia and Dialga missions are still available.
So don’t miss your chance to catch ‘em all!
