Johto Starters: Chikorita

Chikorita
Among the most difficult Pokémon to acquire in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Chikorita is a grass Pokémon native to the Johto region. As one of the Gen II starters they are very versatile in their uses, learning a variety of moves that can carry their trainer through the story mode of the games. By the time they reach their final evolution at level 32 they are a tough little Pokémon with 100 in both defensive stats and 80 HP.

The Chikorita I’ve bred for this event are not intended to beat down the opposition as much as they are intended to support their teams. While Grass Knot gives them a decent offense, they really shine when they are defending and healing their teammates.

All will have a Bold nature, weakening their physical attack (which they aren’t using anyway) but boosting their physical defense to allow them to take hits a bit better.
Their move set is as follows:
Grass Knot: A quirky if potentially very powerful grass attack that works off of Chikorita’s special attack stat. It’s power is determined by the weight of the target. Against lightweights like Castform or Shedninja it has a measly power of 20. Against the heavyweights like Snorlax or Tyranitar it has a massive power of 120!
Leech Seed: A move that slowly drains the HP of your foe while healing you. It’s a great attack for forcing switches or punishing walls.
Aromatherapy: Nothing ruins your day like having your physical attacker burned or your fastest team member paralyzed. With Aromatherapy Chikorita can help! Using the move while on the field will not only cure any status effects on the user, it cures *all* status effects for the user’s entire team!
Reflect: Defend your team by erecting a mystic barrier that reduces all physical damage by 1/3 for 5 turns (longer if you can find some soft clay to hold while setting it up). Watch out for Brick Break!

As with all grass type starters, all my Chikorita will have the Overgrow ability. When reduced to below 1/4 health all their Grass type attacks gain a 50% bonus to their power!

Rules:
Please leave your name and FC, even if we traded before I will need it again.
Only 1 Pokémon per person
There is a 9:1 ratio of boys to girls with all starters. I have a couple girls to give away but they will be claimed on a first come/first served basis. Unless you are one of the first people I trade with, expect to get a boy.
Please do not trade me eggs.
Be in the Wi-Fi zone at 6:30 pm(CST), on April 17th
Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.
Items(rare candies, heart scales, shards, or TMs) are very appreciated but not required.
If you are new to our site, your first comment will be moderated. Don’t worry if your post doesn’t show, we will get to it in time, and you will not miss out!

Pokemon Farming: Forum Special: Chikorita

March 10, 2008 | 67 Comments

Todays pokemon offering is Chikorita, a great starting pokemon from the Johto region. This little weed will eventually evolve into a very formidable "Red Ring of Terror" known as Maganium.

Chikorita/Bayleaf/Maganium have very good defensive stats but only slightly decent attack stats. For this reason, I stuck with producing all with the nature Bold which allows 10% to the Defense stat and reduces the max Attack value by 10%. The below move set is aimed at utilizing the Special Attack so the loss of those extra points will not hinder his effectiveness.

All chikoritas and the subsequent evolutions have the ability Overgrowth. Overgrowth causes a 50% raise in damage caused by Grass moves when the users HP falls to or below 1/3 its max.

Move set

Leech Seed – accuracy 90% 10PP – seeds a fow and then drains 1/16 of their max life every turn.

Protect – accuracy 100% 10PP – Goes first, completely protects from any damage this turn. Accuracy is halved each time this move is used in succession.
Grass Knot – SpA -accuracy 100% 20PP- Hits heavier opponents for more damage, with a max of 120 power.
Ancient Power – SpA – power 60, accuracy 100% 5PP – Rock attack with a 10% chance of raising all stats.

This set will work great as a staller as well as on great big walls. Leech seed the high HP walls and steal 1/16 their life to help revive yourself. Along with leftovers attached which also recovers 1/16, you will be drawing double HP recovery for a total of 1/8+ per turn. Using protect as your second move allows your poke to recover a whopping 1/4+ of its life for free, hopefully replenishing the hit you took to dispense your leech seed.

Once you are set up, the use of Grass Knot will help with the destruction of large walls and help to prevent the switching in of larger pokemon. Grass Knot has a gradient of damage based on the weight of the opponent pokemon, shown below

Below 10 kg: 20 power
10.1 kg – 25 kg: 40 power
25.1 kg – 50 kg: 60 power
50.1 kg – 100 kg: 80 power
100.1 kg – 200 kg: 100 power
200.1 kg and up: 120 power

The final move is to help protect against the weakness of chikorita. The rock move Ancient Power will hit four of its five 2x weakness (Ice, Bug, Flying and Fire) for 2x damage, helping to keep your chikorita/bayleaf/manganium up and running longer.

How to get one:

1. Comment with your Name and Friend Code
2. Get a Pokemon to trade, preferably holding an item. Heartscales and rare candies are much appreciated for future breeding projects.
3. Be in the Wi-Fi zone at 6pm CST (Chicago Time) on March 14th (Friday)
4. Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.

Pokemon Farming: Tangela

TangelaPokemon Farming: Tangela
Tangrowth

It is that time once again. Time for me to offer an amazing Pokemon farmed for your Pokemon pleasure. I spent a long time thinking about this one (and an even longer time getting ready) and it is now ready for you.

Today I give to you the Grass Pokemon Tangela.

Tangela first appeared in the original Pokemon games for Game Boy. This “knotty” little clump of weeds and vines looks like something that belongs on the end of a pencil. If you do not know what I mean then ask your parents! You will find Tangela in the PokeDex at spot number 70. Most of its stats are below average but it has a very high Special Attack.

When diamond and Pearl came out Tangela was one of the few Pokemon to gain a bonus evolution based on learning an attack. That attack is Ancient Power and once it learns it Tangela will evolve into Tangrowth. Tangrowth is a superior version of Tangela with much improved stats.

Tangela learns Ancient Power at level 33 but if my breeding program holds true these Pokemon will have it at level one. Which means you will be able to have a level two Tangrowth if you so desire.

These Tangela will have one of the following poke Powers: Cholorphyll or Leaf Guard.

If all works according to my plan they will have the following attacks: Ingrain, Power Whip, Leaf Storm and Ancient Power.

I have not yet begun to hatch these Pokemon because I need both parents to reach level 54 so they will both know Power Whip and be able to pass it on to their kids. If there is a problem I will post an update here.

Rules
1. I don’t care what you trade me though I would prefer a non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
2. The Pokemon you trade to me should be holding something.
3. I prefer berries over all other items.
4. The only exception to berries are the two items that Magby/Elekid hold when caught in the wild.
5. For berries I need: numbers 60+.
6. When you leave your information in the comments below your trainer name must be correct. When I do the trading I refer to the comments on the site to see who gets what.
7. When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option and wait for me to select you.
8. If you can, be early. I am sometimes on early.
9. Don’t be afraid to trade amongst yourselves.

  • Be in the Wi-Fi zone by 7:00PM EDT (New York Time) on Tuesday October 16, 2007

Update
As the Pokemon began to hatch I found that Ingrain would not pass on to the kids! In place of the move Ingrain these Pokemon now have Wring Out. I will be hatching 30 Tangela tonight. Be there or go without!

PS: I might be on early. If I am I will post as such here.

Pokemon Farming: Chikorita AND Cyndaquil

October 10, 2007 | 140 Comments

I’m doing two today for a couple of reasons. First, I feel bad, I’ve been sick with the Flu all this week and I didn’t have any time to make a nice move set Pokemon to hand out to everyone. I like to do move set Pokes so that even if you already have it, the moves make it really desirable. Simple, run of the mill egg hatching takes MUCH less time than carefully breeding move sets into 30 babies, too. We also have not done either of these two in the past couple of weeks, so I thought I’d make sure any newcomers would have the chance to get these hard-to-get starters!

The catch is that I can only give you one of the two, so choose which you would prefer the most and then follow these easy rules:

  • Comment with your Name and Friend Code
    • Even if we have traded before, I need your information again!
  • Get a Pokemon to trade (preferably non-Sinnoh, though I will take anything, items are always appreciated.)
  • Be in the Wi-Fi zone at 6:30pm EDT on October 11 (Thursday)
  • Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.
  • If you are new to our site, your first comment will be moderated. Don’t worry if your post doesn’t show, we will get to it in time, and you will not miss out!
  • Only Chikorita and Cyndaquil will be handed out tonight, thanks! I can’t give both to anyone, so choose wisely.

Expect something great next week, it’s already in the works! See everyone tonight!

Pokemon Farming: Chikorita

September 2, 2007 | 166 Comments

Back by popular demand!

One of the most common requests we get here at PokeFarm is for the Johto starters. While I was busy this weekend getting the forums upgraded I had a little bit of time to breed some Chikorita for trading.

I did not have a lot of time to devote to getting them an awesome move set so I instead focused on getting them to all have Grass moves.

    Move Set

  • Razor Leaf
  • Synthesis
  • Giga Drain
  • Leach Seed

The interesting thing about Chikorita is the difficulty in catching one. Because Nintendo and Game Freak have not seen fit to release a GBA or DS version of the johto games the only way to acquire one is by catching its evolved form in Pokemon Colosseum, filling your Pokedex in Emerald or Leaf Green/Fire Red or winning 100 battle in a row in the Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness Battle Mountain. This makes Chikorita almost as rare as an event Pokemon!

If you look below you will see that this is going to be a daytime trade session. These little grass guys will be traded before I eat lunch!

I would also like to tell all of you that the new forums have a calendar feature that we will be using to let you know in advance what Pokemon we will be farming.

Rules
1. I don’t care what you trade me though I would prefer a non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
