Pokémon Farming: Mudkips
October 11, 2009 | 74 Comments
One of everyone’s favorite pokemon is Swampert and who doesn’t love a powerful water type that is immune to Electric attacks. When people talk about bulky water types, Swampert is usually what comes to mind. So thefuriousangel bred up a batch of powerful babies for anyone who likes Mudkips.

While these little Mudkips are still just a Water type, they will soon grow up to be a mighty Swamperts. They are bred with a Sassy (+ SpDef, – Speed) nature to enhance their special defense and go with their sturdy HP base. They will all have the ability of Torrent which will increase the power of their Water attacks by 50% when their HP runs below one third. They will all come with these moves:
Double Edge (Normal, Power 120, Acc 100)
A strong attack Mudkip can use until it evolves and can learn Earthquake.
Mirror Coat (Psychic, Power – , Acc 100)
Mirror Coat absorbs special attacks and reflects an attack of double the damage back at the opponent. Swampert’s good HP combined with the Special Defense boost from their Sassy nature makes this a powerful counterattack to any Special Sweeper that might be wreaking havoc against your team.
Waterfall (Water STAB, Power 80, Acc 100)
A powerful STAB attack using its stronger physical attack stat to do damage.
Ice Beam (Ice, Power 95, Acc 100)
While Flying Dragons don’t fear its Earthquake or Water moves, they won’t like to switch into this move. It also gives it a counter to Grass types that might want to prey on its only weakness.

Pokemon Farming: Back to School Bulbasaurs
August 27, 2009 | 54 Comments
Summer is slowly coming to an end and so is your summer break. It is time to once again return to school and get back to basics and numbers 1-2-3 in your pokedex is Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur.

Bulbasaurs are a Poison/Grass type with a good Special Attack and Special Defense and with some nurturing and training they quickly grow to a mighty Venusaur. Much like you should be about returning to school, these Bulbasaurs will all have a Calm (+ SpDef, – Attack) nature to enhance their mighty defense and be able to handle anything that is coming at them. They will all have the ability of Overgrow which will increase the power of their Grass attacks when their HP runs low
Leech Seed (Power – , Acc 90)
Much like the seeds of knowledge being planted in your fertile minds, Leech Seed drains 1/8 of your opponent’s HP and adds it to your HP until your opponent switches out as long as it isn’t a Grass type.
Sleep Powder (Power – , Acc 75)
Gone are the late nights, staying up watching TV or playing pokemon. Its back to bed early and Sleep Powder is the trick. Your opponent will sleep for 2-5 turns while that Leech Seed keeps draining away its HP.
Sludge Bomb (Poison STAB, Power 90, Acc 100)
After getting that good night’s sleep its time to eat right and cut out that junk food. I mentioned Bulbasaur is a poison type and Sludge Bomb is not only a powerful STAB attack, but gives you a 30% chance of poisoning your opponent.
Petal Dance (Grass STAB, Power 90, Acc 100)
There is more to returning to school than studying. You are able to get together with some of your friends that you might not have seen much during the summer. Petal Dance is a powerful Stab move that lasts 2-3 turns, but leaves you confused at the end.
These baby bulbas will come from our resident pokefarmer Sorgatani.
The event will be at 9:00 AM in Victoria, Australia on Sunday August 30, 2009
That will be 7 PM Eastern Daylight Time (4 PM Pacific Daylight) on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in the US and Saturday night at midnight in the UK

Pokemon Farming: Ralts
August 5, 2009 | 54 Comments
Ralts has a new option in this fourth generation. Male Kirlia can evolve into Gallade by using a Dawn Stone on them.

Gallade has similar base stats as its counterpart Gardevoir, but its strength is as a Physical Attacker rather than a Special Attacker. Poor little Ralts can’t learn many physical attacks, but it doesn’t need to as Gallade learns strong STAB moves as Psycho Cut and Close Combat as well as Night Slash and Leaf Blade as level up moves. Earthquake, Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Poison Jab, Aerial Ace and X-scissor can all be taught to it by using TMs. Now thanks to Platinum move tutors it can learn Thunderpunch, Fire Punch and Ice Punch. All these attacks, a base Attack stat of 125 and the ability to learn Sword Dance as a level up move makes Gallade a force in any battle.
There are many different strategies for using Gallade and I bred these little Ralts with some moves to utilize them.
Hypnosis
The strategy here is known as Sleep and Sweep. Put the opponent to sleep, Sword Dance and sweep away or skip the Sword Dance and start sweeping right away. Gallade can break down a lot of different walls this way and make those slow bulky types pay.
Thunder Wave
If you are leery of accuracy of Hypnosis, you can use Thunder Wave to paralyze your opponent and give Gallade a speed advantage.
Another strategy is the Double Status. Since most opponents will switch out after hypnosis, you can greet the incoming pokémon with Paralysis and cripple two of your opponent’s pokémon.
Substitute
This move uses 1/4 of its HP to create a substitute. Attach a Salac berry to Gallade and sub away. Sword Dance behind you sub’s protection and when the Salac berry kicks in, you will have boosted both your Attack and Speed.
Shadow Sneak (Ghost, Power 40, Acc 100)
A priority move that Ralts can learn that gives Gallade a first attack move that is super-effective against Ghost and Psychics. Strap a Focus Sash on Gallade and its many attacks and it can serve as a counter to most leads and Shadow Sneak can counter any opponents that might be also be sashed.
All these Ralts will be Adamant (+Attack, – SpAttack) males with a Dawn Stone attached. When evolved, Gallade will have the ability of Steadfast which will raise its speed one level (50%) every time it flinches. These Gallades will make excellent False Swipers as they learn False Swipe at level 45 to go with their two status inflicting moves to help you capture wild pokémon.

Pokemon Farming Johto Starters: Totodile
May 26, 2009 | 105 Comments
The Johto Starters series concludes with the Water-type starter, Totodile.
![]()
Totodile is another Pokémon who is hard to come by in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. The Water-type starter of the Johto region, this Big Jaw Pokémon can learn a variety of interesting level-up moves and is one of the earliest starters to reach its final evolution, Feraligatr, at Level 30.
The set I’ve used for these Totodile is very powerful and holds a lot of potential for sweeping in battle. If you can get in a turn or two to boost your stats with Dragon Dance or Substitute, you’ve got some great power at your disposal.
Each Totodile has a Jolly (+Speed, -SpAtk) nature. Their moveset is as follows:
Dragon Dance: Totodile performs a mystic dance that raises both its Attack and its Speed. If your evolved Feraligatr is holding a Liechi Berry in battle, just one Dragon Dance will allow it to outrun all Pokémon that are not holding Choice Scarf.
Substitute: If your Totodile’s worried about getting hit, lay down a Substitute and let a doll take the beatings. Substituting enough also allows the effects of Torrent, Totodile’s ability, take effect, boosting any STAB Water-type moves.
Waterfall: This is Totodile’s STAB Water-type move. Using this, especially at low health, can give quite the blow to an opponent.
Flail: Using the same tactic of reducing HP via Substitute creates a deadly attack in Flail. The Attack and Speed boosts from Dragon Dance and the low HP help Totodile to use a powerful attack while benefiting from high Speed and Attack.

Johto Starters: Cyndaquil
May 11, 2009 | 134 Comments
With the April showers fading away it is time for the weather to warm up and here is the second of the Johto starters, Cyndaquil. I offer these because they represent to me what a friend and traveling companion should be. Cyndaquil is a Fire pokémon and is not found in the Diamond/Pearl or Platinum games. Although these Mild (+Attack, – Defense) natured Cyndaquils aren’t that powerful yet, they will soon evolve into a mighty Typhlosions. They all have the ability of Blaze, which means when their backs are against the wall and their HP is low, their red hot Fire power increases by 50%.
The move-set represents how good of a traveling buddy they can be:
Flamethrower (Fire, STAB Power 95, Acc 100)
Strong and reliable, just like these little guys
Covet (Normal, Power 40, Acc 100)
Isn’t it nice to get presents for no reason? With this move Cyndaquil can take items and berries that are held by wild pokémon and give them to you. It also carries a whopping 40 PP which makes him a great companion if you like to chain as he can learns Quick Attack at level 13 (30 PP) and Cut (30 PP) as an HM move allowing you to stay out longer in the grassy patches.
Sunny Day (Fire, Makes the sun shine for 5 rounds)
If you are feeling gloomy these little guys can turn your gray skies blue. The bright sunshine raises the power of Fire moves by 50% and lessens the damage of Water moves by 50%.
Dig (Ground, Power 80, Acc 100)
If you find yourself in a jam, these Cyndaquil can often dig you out of it. Dig can be used in caves and temples to take you back to their opening which can be helpful if your team is running low on energy or if you can’t wait to check out your new legendary. Dig gives you a super-effective attack against rock and electric types as well as other fire types, but don’t use this move against pokémon that know Earthquake or Magnitude as it will double the power of that attack if you are underground.

April Showers Farming: Qwilfish
April 20, 2009 | 34 Comments
One of the best abilities to take advantage of the rainy weather is Swift Swim. Swift Swim doubles the speed stat of a pokemon with that ability, usually allowing it to attack first. Keeping this in mind all these Qwilfish will have the Swift Swim ability and an Adamant nature (+ Attack, – Special Attack).
Qwilfish is a Poison/Water type with a good base attack and decent speed that allow it to be a formidable force on any Rain Dance team. These are all bred with the following physical attacks:
Poison Jab (Poison STAB, Power 80, Acc 100)
A powerful STAB move that has a 30% chance of poisoning foes.
Aqua Tail (Water STAB, Power 90, Acc 90)
Another STAB move that can be replaced with Waterfall (Power 80, Acc 100) if you like more accuracy and the 20% chance at causing opponents to flinch.
Explosion ( Normal, Power 250, Acc 100)
A super powerful move that will take down anything that doesn’t resist it. With Qwilfish resistant to many of the priority attacks and the speed advantage of Swift Swim, you can wait until its HP gets low and send it out with a bang to allow another teammate to have its fun in the rain.
Frustration (Normal, Power 1-102, Acc 100)
Worried about your Qwilfish not liking you continuously exploding it? Well as its happiness decreases, the power of this move will increase, up to a maximum power of 102. It will give you a solid base power of 74 to start with. So let it faint and feed it bitter herbs. The madder it gets, the more powerful this move becomes. Keep in mind that if you trade the pokemon, the happiness will reset to its base of 70.

Johto Starters: Chikorita
April 10, 2009 | 194 Comments
![]()
Among the most difficult Pokémon to acquire in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Chikorita is a grass Pokémon native to the Johto region. As one of the Gen II starters they are very versatile in their uses, learning a variety of moves that can carry their trainer through the story mode of the games. By the time they reach their final evolution at level 32 they are a tough little Pokémon with 100 in both defensive stats and 80 HP.
The Chikorita I’ve bred for this event are not intended to beat down the opposition as much as they are intended to support their teams. While Grass Knot gives them a decent offense, they really shine when they are defending and healing their teammates.
All will have a Bold nature, weakening their physical attack (which they aren’t using anyway) but boosting their physical defense to allow them to take hits a bit better.
Their move set is as follows:
Grass Knot: A quirky if potentially very powerful grass attack that works off of Chikorita’s special attack stat. It’s power is determined by the weight of the target. Against lightweights like Castform or Shedninja it has a measly power of 20. Against the heavyweights like Snorlax or Tyranitar it has a massive power of 120!
Leech Seed: A move that slowly drains the HP of your foe while healing you. It’s a great attack for forcing switches or punishing walls.
Aromatherapy: Nothing ruins your day like having your physical attacker burned or your fastest team member paralyzed. With Aromatherapy Chikorita can help! Using the move while on the field will not only cure any status effects on the user, it cures *all* status effects for the user’s entire team!
Reflect: Defend your team by erecting a mystic barrier that reduces all physical damage by 1/3 for 5 turns (longer if you can find some soft clay to hold while setting it up). Watch out for Brick Break!
As with all grass type starters, all my Chikorita will have the Overgrow ability. When reduced to below 1/4 health all their Grass type attacks gain a 50% bonus to their power!

Pokemon Farming: Tangela
March 20, 2009 | 50 Comments
No one knows exactly what Tangela is. It looks like a big ball of spaghetti come to life. In first gen it was often over looked for other grass types, but with the addition of the fourth gen games Tangela has been blessed with an evolution that makes it a great choice for teams, whether they be UU or not. When Tangela learns the move Ancient Power it evolves into the giant pasta monster Tangrowth. Tangrowth can be a monster of a wall, with resistance to the ever popular Earthquake and study base stats in HP (100), Attack (100), and Def (125), Tangrowth can do some useful walling. Couple those base stats with it’s ability to learn Knock Off and a useful physical STAB in the move Power Whip and you have a poke that capable of revealing your foes move set (via item) or OHKOing the ever annoying Swampert. So the Tangela I have to day are Impish(Def+, Sp. Attack-) and all have max Defense IVs, some have mulitiple 31 IVs in other stats. They also have the following move set:
Power Whip: A powerful STABed attack with a base power of 120, even without significant EV investment in attack you’ll hurt something with it or you can just use it to scare certain pokes away.
Leech Seed: A move that slowly drains the HP of your foe. It’s a great attack for forcing switches, use it in conjunction with Stealth Rock and Spikes.
Ancient Power: A rock type attack with a base power of 60. With this attack Tangela will evolve into Tangrowth at level 2.
Amnesia: An attack that increases Tangela’s Special Defense by 2 stages.
The Tangela will either have the Leaf Guard or Chlorophyll ablility.

Boulder Gym Week Presents: Lileep
March 9, 2009 | 55 Comments
In continuance of Boulder Gym Week, a new pokemon has emerged from the rocks to provide a great wall for your pokemon team. With a base HP of 86, Def of 97 and Sp. Def of 107, Cradily will be a pokemon to reckon with during a battle. Add it to a sandstorm team and Cradily has a 50% increase in Sp. Def. making it a great special wall. All Lileep given away this evening will have a Sassy (+Sp. Def, – Speed) nature and all will have a 31 IV in Sp. Def, allowing for a maximum value in Sp. Def. once he/she has gone through EV training.
Toxic
Poison the pokes that come in to prevent them from sticking around doing damage and with the ability suction cup, no one is going to Roar or Whirlwind you outta there.
Confuse Ray
What’s worse than having to face a wall? How about having to face a wall with 1/4 chance of hitting them. Once they are confused, they either wait around to be hit or force a swithc out, hopefully having the new poke hitting the obstacles already in place .
Energy Ball
A special attack move with a STAB power 80 that will do some damage to those who wish to switch in.
Ancient Power
A power 60 STAB Rock move that has a 10% chance to raise all your Lileep/Cradily’s stats, making it a beast to have to deal with in battle.

Pokémon Farming: Hazardous Omanytes
March 6, 2009 | 36 Comments
![]()
![]()
The rocky road to the Boulder Gym in fraught with perils and at its culmination waits is fearless leader Whitdjinn. You had better be prepared to face more than just your run of the mill Geodude and Onix once you get there. To illustrate the risks one might face, I have bred a particularly hazardous Omanyte.
Omanyte is a Rock and Water type and evolves to Omastar at level 40. All these little spiral pokémon have a Bold nature (- Att, + Def) to add to their already high base Defense and give them lasting power to set up their hazards.
Spikes:
Omanyte lays down a layer of spikes that damage pokemon entering the battle. Spikes can be layered, but won’t effect Flying or Levitating pokémon.
Toxic Spikes:
Toxic Spikes poison all pokemon as they switch in except Flying, Poison, Steel or Levitating Types. A second layer will give them Toxic poisoning as they enter the battle, increasing the HP loss every turn.
Stealth Rock:
A layer of rocks are set up floating around the battle arena damaging every pokémon that enters the battle based on its weakness to Rock attacks.
Ice Beam (Ice, Power 95, Acc 100):
With Omanyte/Omastar gaining STAB attacks of Brine, Ancient Power and Hydro Pump through leveling up, I bred in an Ice attack to keep surprise any Grass types that might want to step in.
Abilities:
Shell Armor – Omanyte’s shell prevents critical hits against him
Swift Swim – Doubles it Speed stat when Rain Dance is in effect
All these given away will be male.
