In case you might not have heard the news Nintendo just launched a live website that lets you take a look into the GTS! This amazing site gives you a graphical look into the goings on at the Global Trade Station. I took some time to look it over and I am going to both review the site here and provide some screen shots.

The site will let users see which Pokémon are the most popular to trade, provide statistics about the number of trades completed and allow them to bookmark their favorite Pokémon. The site will operate in seven different languages and inform users about the nation they’re “visiting” electronically. Visitors can even listen to audio files to learn how to say “hello” and “thank you” in select countries languages.

– Nintendo Press Release

The first thing you see once you enter the site (and pass through the opening loading screen) is a large globe of the Earth with flags all over the place. This globe is a live representation of what is going on in the GTS at any given time. The lines you see crossing the globe are Pokemon trades in progress. In fact the information block on the left and right are both halves of one trade currently in progress.

Clicking on the Pokemon Search button will bring up a listing of Pokemon in National Dex order. These Pokemon are displayed in groups of 50. To the right of the display area is a drop down box that allows you to select which group of 50 you want to see. Clicking on a Pokemon in the display area will bring up data on that Pokemon and list ones that are currently up for trade in the GTS. Some Pokemon (event Pokemon) can not be selected. I do not know if this is because there are none on GTS or not but I could not select any event Pokemon (the next three do not show up, not even Darkrai). I also could not select Phione or Manaphy.

As you can clearly see from the image at right clicking on the Pokemon in question brings up a good bit of information consisting of; moves, gender, location and item held (if any). Notice anything missing? I do but I will cover it later.

The yellow line points back to the globe to let you know where in the world this Pokemon currently resides. Because 5 Pokemon will be displayed at one time 5 yellow PokeBalls can be seen on the map to indicate where the other Pokemon are.

So, what other information can we see by looking at this particular page? One thing we can see is a listing of the Pokemon that are the Top 10 most deposited Pokemon that people have deposited looking to trade for this Pokemon. Behind that is a second tab area that lists the Top 10 most traded Pokemon that have been traded for this Pokemon. That’s a mouth-full eh?

Now that is just strange! The most deposited Pokemon deposited by people looking for an Eevee is an Eevee! it might just be people looking for an Eevee with a better nature of looking to trade males for females. The data only ever shows type.

So, is there anything else about the GTS worth talking about? So far it’s just a bunch of information and nothing is exactly useful because there is no way to really use this information effectively when planning your trades. I have to admit that there is one huge failing on this site and I will get to that. Before I do let me show you another of the nice informational pieces.

Let me now show you three screen shots of one of the most interesting statistics areas on the site; the Top 50 lists.

GTS Top 50 Most Traded Pokemon

GTS Top 50 Most Wanted Pokemon

GTS Top 50 Most Deposited Pokemon

The above three screen shots show the three top 50 lists. You can use that information to get a rough idea of how in demand the Pokemon you have are. At this point I was getting pretty happy. I was beginning to think that this GTS site would have it all…

Even though the GTS site has cool things such as a graphic display of Pokemon trades as they happen there is one thing that the GTS web site (like the real GTS) lacks. Have you figured out what that is?

You can’t search by Pokemon wanted!!!

Yes, the one feature I desperately need is the ability to find out what Pokemon people are looking for and what they want for them. Many times I have found myself with a good Pokemon that I wanted to trade away but I just did not know what to ask for. I would think to myself, “if only the GTS allowed me to search not for offered Pokemon but search by what people are looking for!”

Yes, the one big failing is that the GTS web site does not allow you to search for what people want. Not only that but even when you find a Pokemon you want on the GTS web site there is no way to find out what they want in exchange! Even if you are lucky enough to have your DS on and be in the GTS while looking at the site you may not even see any of the Pokemon from the site on your DS. If you do you have to match them up based on level and item held (if any) because the web site does not give you the trainer name.

Sadly I must conclude that the GTS web site is just a big piece of eye candy. You can’t really do anything with it and in that I am disappointed.

How many of you also have the new Pokemon Battle Revolution game?

I would like to begin running a monthly tournament but I would prefer to use the Wi game because it has better checking for hacked Pokemon.

Prizes? Yes, there would be prizes. Rare Pokemon, rare un-breedable Pokemon to be precise. 100% legit rare un-breedable Pokemon no less.

Yes, I know I have been a bit lax this week on my farming. I have been quite busy with other things. Because of my new found business I have been attempting to make up for this by using the GTS.

Every morning (and during the day) I check the GTS for the following Pokemon:

Bidoof

Shinx

Starly

Geodude

Zubat

Abra

Why do I check for these Pokemon? I do it because these six Pokemon are the ones you are most likely to catch within the first half hour of playing the game.

My aim, in looking for these Pokemon, is to trade the Diamond/Pearl starters away. I do this because many people are just getting their games going and they want to get all of the starters. If you do a search for the starters on GTS you often find people asking for Palkia and Dialga (level 100) and that is simply not a fair trade.

So, if you are looking for the starters you might find the ones I put up or you can take the easy method and post one of the above Pokemon and simply ask for one. If I do not get you one someone else probably will.

This Monday, June 4, I will be posting another farming article featuring a non-Diamond/Pearl starter Pokemon.

Several months ago Toys-R-Us had a Mew give away deal, I was there. I acquired many Mews on that day and now you can benefit from my gain.

Right now I have one level 10 Mew in my Pokemon Pearl game and I am willing to trade it away for a Dialga with the Admantium Ball/Orb thing that he uses. This Mew has never been trained or anything, he is in the same state he was when I got him at the Pokemon event.

Mew:
OT:MYSTRY
ID No. 06930
Timid nature
HP – 41
Attack – 23
Defense – 26
Sp. Atk – 25
Sp. Def – 26
Speed – 27

Attacks: Pound and Transform

This Mew has been traded

If you want him, and you have a legit copy of Dialga with his orb then he can be yours.

Leave a note in the comments section and we can work something out.

UPDATECheck out this thread over at Serebii Forums. Somebody got a hold of one of the Toys-R-Us cartridges and is giving away a ton of Mews!

This morning I took my daughter down to the local GameStop store to buy our pre-ordered copies of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. All I can say is wow! These games are far better than I was expecting.

We had gotten the call a few days prior from GameStop telling us our games would be ready for a 9:00AM pickup… Well, something happened at the local store and they did not open until 10:00AM. Let me tell you, that was a long hour to wait!

Since we were first in line it was a simple in and out for us. We got our two styluses and the stylus holder. they were offering the big guide book for 20% off but, I want this game to be fun and full of surprises so those books are off limits until we beat the game.

See, that is one of the best things about getting a new pokemon game, the wonder. Yeah, I know now what types some of the new beasties are but, when you first encounter a new pokemon you have to guess its type until you actually catch one. That’s the fun part for me. It’s not about beating the pokemon it’s all about meeting them and facing the unknown!

After about seven hours of playing this game (I got Pearl) I have now beaten two gyms. My pokemon are near level 20 and I’m having a great time!

I went with Chimchar as my starter and my daughter took Piplup. One of her friends took Turtwig so, eventually, we will all have one of each starter.

Interestingly enough, within a half hour of play time my daughter managed to catch her first shiny pokemon ever, a Shinx! She was so excited she started calling her friends. I was excited for her as well because I know how rare it is to get a shiny pokemon.

For the main gameplay areas you do not need your stylus. In fact, even when I need to use the touch pad for something I just use my finger or the control pad. Most everything can be done with the control pad. I find it faster and easier that way.

Not messing around with the old GBA link cables is awesome!

The Wi-Fi section is also awesome! It’s about time they added a world-wide connection center for the pokemon games.

I’ve just started dabbling in the underground areas so I do not have a strong opinion about that area yet. I’ll let you know more as I know more.

One big difference that I am finding is the lower EXP payout from most encounters. My speed record for beating Pokemon Ruby is about 12 hours. Within six hours my pokemon (in Ruby) were already well past level 26, not so in Pearl. I’m just not getting the EXP payout like before. Not sure if there are simply less trainer battles or what…

If you are a pokemon fan you should already have these games!

I’m going to be posting some more Diamond and Pearl articles in the near future so stay tuned!!!

3-D World: The game now has a 3-D look to the environments, making the world of Pokémon jump off the screen like never before.

Worldwide Battles/Trading Using Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection: Once Friend Codes have been registered, two players can then battle and trade while talking.

Night and Day: Using the DS clock function, the game transitions from morning, day and night in real time.

Intense Battles: Many new dual-type Pokémon, new and refined moves and new special Abilities add to the already deep strategy of Pokémon battling.

Bring Pokémon from GBA: Players can bring Pokémon from their Game Boy® Advance Pokémon games to Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl using the GBA game slot on their Nintendo DS.

Game storyline: In the Sinnoh region, there are two Pokémon that symbolize the region. They appear in the Sinnoh region's myths and old folklore. One is called Dialga, and is said to have the power to control time. The other is called Palkia, who is said to have the ability to distort space. The sinister organization called Team Galactic is trying to rule the region by using the power of these two Pokémon. During the adventure to complete the Pokédex and become the Pokémon League Champion, these two Pokémon, and Team Galactic, will intertwine into the story and lead players on a fantastic journey across the Sinnoh region.

Characters: More than 100 new Pokémon make their debut in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Many are new, and some are even evolutions and pre-evolutions of characters from past games. The player can choose to be a boy or girl trainer. There are eight new Gym Leaders, as well as a new Professor and a new rival. Team Galactic takes the role of the new villains this time around.

How to progress through the game: Players start out as an aspiring Pokémon Trainer (either a boy or a girl) and aim to become the Pokémon Champion. They choose from one of the three starter Pokémon. As they journey through the Sinnoh region, they will catch and level up Pokémon and battle with other Trainers and Gym Leaders to make their way to the top. The story unfolds as the player goes from town to town, across towering mountains, through muddy swamps and deep into caves beneath the earth.

Special abilities/moves/features:

Worldwide battles and trading using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Real-time clock feature changes the time of day based on the DS clock. The Pokémon characters players can catch vary based on the location and time of day. Also, the power of certain Pokémon moves changes based on time.

More elaborate Pokémon Contests. Players can use accessories and dress up their Pokémon. Players make “Poffins” out of Berries to raise their Pokémon's contest stats.

New dual-type Pokémon, new/altered moves and new special abilities add to the already deep strategy of Pokémon battling.

3-D environments and updated graphics.

Communication Features:

Once the player has completed the Sinnoh Pokédex and become the League Champion, he or she can use the dual-slot feature of the Nintendo DS to import Pokémon from Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, Pokémon FireRed, Pokémon LeafGreen and Pokémon Emerald. Once players enter an area called Pal Park, they can see and capture their Pokémon from previous games, which are then permanently transferred to Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Up to six Pokémon per day can be transferred to Pal Park and then captured in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl.

Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are fully Wi-Fi compatible, allowing players to trade and battle worldwide. Also, the games use local wireless to battle and trade with up to four players (eight in the underground game). Also, when using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, two players can chat using the DS microphone.

If players own Pokémon Ranger, they can enter a special code (found on www.Manaphy.com) to unlock a mission to receive a special Manaphy Egg from Pokémon Ranger and then hatch it in Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl.

With Friend Codes: If players are connected through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, they can trade or battle as they talk to their friends. They have to exchange their “Friend Code” with their friends first.

Without Friend Codes:
Global Trade Station (trading without Friend Codes): The Global Trade Station uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and allows players to trade Pokémon with others who have Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl anywhere in the world. They post Pokémon they want to trade on a board, and they can browse through Pokémon other players have posted without directly interacting with other players.

Battle Tower (battling without Friend Codes): The Battle Tower allows players to battle with seven Trainers who have registered their player data in the Wi-Fi Battle Dome. After players battle, they can then upload their data so that other Trainers can battle “them.” The more players win, the higher their rank rises. Players can register where they live on a terrestrial globe called Geonet in the Global Trade Station. If players exchange data with players from other areas, their location will be registered on the Geonet as well.

<img align=right hspace=15 vspace=15 <src='http://www.hmtk.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/dpebbonus.jpg' alt='DP Bonus 1' />EBGames

EBGames is offering a special deal if you buy both games as a preorder. Not only do you get the standard bonus styler but you also get a bonus stylus holder. Keep in mind that the Diamond and Pearl Stylus will not properly fit inside of your DS.

If you preorder the games on their own through EBGames you only get the matching Stylus.

Amazon

On April 22, 2007 the two new Pokemon games for DS launch. Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl have already seen great success in Japan, will they duplicate that success in America? Considering the games sold about 5 million copies in the first three months I expect these two games to be very popular. With Pokemon games one always ends up more popular than the other, which will it be this time?

Highlights

100 new Pokemon

Wi-Fi play for up to 8 players

Bring your GBA Pokemon forward

Talk to your opponents while battling

Let’s break each item down a little bit here

100 new Pokemon
Not only can you use the existing 380 Pokemon from the GBA games but, 100 new Pokemon have been added to the game! Some of these Pokemon are entirely new while others are new evolved and un-evolved forms of existing Pokemon.

Wi-Fi play for up to 8 players
Using a local Wi-Fi connection up to 8 trainers can connect and play with each other. Previous titles have maxed out at four trainers connected at once.

Import your GBA Pokemon
One of the biggest gripes people had with the move from Game Boy Color to Game Boy Advance was the lack of being able to bring your Pokemon with you. With Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl you can! After completing a certain objectives in the game you will be allowed to transfer Pokemon from your GBA games to Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.

Talk to your opponents while battling
This is clearly the biggest news of the day. Using VOIP style technology and the built-in DS microphone (and a friend code) you will be able to talk to your opponents, no matter where in the world they are, while connected. Using the Nintendo DS headset (sold separately) will make it even easier.

For the parents out there worried about who their kids are talking to understand that the players must know each others friend codes to enable the VOIP communication.

Now check out some screen shots from the upcoming games!

As many readers should already be aware, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are only a few months away from an American release.

This makes me wonder… There are many websites on the net where you can buy items for use in MMO games, will this soon follow with Pokemon?

The new Pokemon games will have a wi-fi element added to them for online play and online trading.

This makes me think that we may soon see a large number of websites pop up allowing people to purchase Pokemon and/or items that will then be transfered over via the Internet.

The easiest way for a reseller to get items would be to use a GBA pack and a cheat unti, but that leads to a problem.

How do you get the stuff from the GBA game into the DS game?

Diamond and Pearl allow for up to 6 Pokemon trades between DS and GBA per day. This means you could move up to 6 items from the GBA game to the DS game for selling.

In order to for an e-tailer to make any money at this they would need to own multiple copies of the DS games and have either a good sized staff or a lot of free time.

Lots of free time?

Yes, even trading between GBA games takes about a minnute per trade. You also need to catch the Pokemon traded into the DS games so I would expect a large number of Wurmples being used as carriers of these items.

What about Pokemon?

Yes, strong Pokemon would also be traded.

However, the ability scores of the Pokemon would need to be made evident before a sale could go through. Any Pokemon that were substandard due to an overuse of Rare Candy would quickly become obvious. This means hand raised Pokemon would fetch a premium.

There is also the case of breeders who prefer to acquire level 5 freshly hatched Pokemon in trades.

I don’t know how much people will be willing to pay to buy a freshly hatched Pokemon but it can take a good ten minutes of real time to hatch an egg.

What about unique Pokemon?

Uniques could sell for a high price, especialy if they have optimal scores.

The thing about the GBA games and the cheat packs that go with them is that it is very easy for someone to save their save game data on their PC and then trade away their uniques.

After the uniques are gone they can restore the save game and repeat!

One potential way to avoid this would be to tell the seller to change the Pokemon’s name to a name of your choice prior to trading. Depending on which Pokemon you are buying this could stop some sellers in their tracks if they have a large “Farming” community behind them.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo has thought of this and built in some sort of “clone checker” into their online play system.

I have mixed emotions about this. As a player I want to battle against people who have trained their Pokemon on their own. I do not want to fight against “farm raised” Pokemon who have been cloned and sold. I also see the revenue potential in running a Pokemon farm…

Time will tell.
