Haunted Halloween Farming: Anachronistic Absol

October 25, 2009 | 27 Comments

It was around this time last year that I decided to create a dual purpose Absol to give out on the farm. Dual nature in that they can be used as a sweeper or team support. Little did I know then it would take a year before I finally got around to it. But, these Absol are all worth it, as they are a bit fortuitous in their existence. I began preparing the parents, when I was on vacation in Salem, Massachusetts. The parents were hatched on the anniversary of one of the most tragic events in the United States developmental history. I of course speak of the Salem Witch Trials. The parents were hatched on the last day of the 316th anniversary of the Salem Witch Trials. It is only appropriate because Absol are known for their ability to forewarn people before tragedy. Not only are these Absol already awesome; but their lineage possesses a little more mystery than meets the eye.

Each spooktacular Absol is a random nature. They all have the ability Superluck: Heightens critical hit ratio of moves.

Each one will possess the same move set:

Baton Pass
Absol passes any stat bonuses to the next team mate.
Sucker Punch (Dark STAB, Power 80 , Acc. 100%)
Absol moves first if opponent is planning to attack.
Taunt
Absol has a knack for enrageing it’s foes. As a result the opponent gets locked into attacking for two to four turns.
Swords Dance
There is nothing more beautiful than an Absol performing a Swords Dance to boost its attack two levels.

Trick or Treat; The IV’s on each Absol are all a surprise what you get is random. All Absol are named after different Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters. Please, don’t ask for a specific character or to change the nick name.

Haunted Halloween Farming: Dreadful Drifloon

October 21, 2009 | 73 Comments

It was a cold, dark night
And in a dainty bedroom,
One boy would come face-to-face
With his untimely doom.

As the boy slept in bed,
He was tossing and turning;
He awoke with a fright
To find a bed that was burning.

The flames licked his bedposts
And caused him to sweat;
But the worst part of the nightmare
Hadn’t happened yet.

Something small touched his forehead,
And he looked up to see
A small, purple Pokémon
Staring back spookily.

Its arms pressed to the boy’s face,
He had no choice but to stay;
He sank back to his pillow
As consciousness faded away.

As he took to his dreams,
More Pokémon came through his door;
They pulled him out of bed
And dropped him onto the floor.

Awakened, he quaked in fright
As the nightmare progressed;
Shadows rose from all sides
Revealing more guests.

The Drifloon closed in
Blocking all else from view;
The boy stared wide-eyed
Knowing he was through.

“It’s all right,” said a voice,
“You have nothing to fear.
Just close your eyes now,
For the end is near.”

Each Drifloon has a Modest (+SpAtk, -Atk) nature. They will all have these moves:

Calm Mind (Psychic, Power – , Acc. –%)
Drifloon calms down and raises both its Special Attack and Special Defense.
Rest (Psychic, Power – , Acc. –%)
Drifloon sleeps soundly, fully restoring its HP.
Shadow Ball (Ghost STAB, Power 80 , Acc. 100%)
Drifloon attacks the foe into submission with this STAB, high-powered move.
Will-O-Wisp (Fire, Power – , Acc. 75%)
Drifloon produces a glowing flame and burns its opponent.

While not all Drifloon have a 31 IV stat, many have multiple stats that are above 25. Also, all are being nicknamed after different ghosts, so please don’t request a nickname.

Haunted Halloween Farming: Slasher Skorupis

October 18, 2009 | 38 Comments

There is a tale about a mysterious pokémon that haunts the woods on the outskirts of town. It can be seen performing his Swords Dance by the pale light of a full moon and every year on Halloween it returns to the town to seek its vengeance.
This Jolly (+Speed,-SpAttack) Skorupi has grown tired of being ignored by pokémon trainers that are only looking for cute or powerful pokémon and have taken for granted its precise attacking abilities. While it is only a Poison/Bug type now it has been known to evolve into the Dreaded Drapion and shed its Bug typing for a Dark, more sinister type. With this new typing it is only weak to Ground attacks and has many resistances and immunities common to UU battles. It can easily slip into a battle unexpectedly, perform its Swords Dance and Slash away at opponents with no remorse.
Its moves are:
Swords Dance (raises his attack two stages)
Raising its attack two stages doubles its Attack strength.
X-Scissor (Bug STAB, Power 80, Acc 100)
A powerful move that is super effective against Dark, Psychic and Grass types and gives Skorupi a strong STAB move he can use while he is young
Poison Jab (Poison STAB, Power 80, Acc 100)
Another powerful STAB move that has a 30% chance of poisoning foes.
Night Slash (Dark, Power 70, Acc 100)
A slashing move with a high critical hit ratio that will be STAB move when Skorupi evolves into a Drapion.

Skorupi has two very useful abilities:
Battle Armor (probably due to its hockey mask) prevents it from being hit by a critical hit.
Sniper makes critical hits delivered by it do three times the damage instead of the usual two times.

  • To receive one of these Night Slashers, be in the wifi room on Tuesday at 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern) on the October 20th, 2009
  • Comment with your Name and Friend Code
  • Get a pokémon to trade, I’m not looking for anything particular just something you don’t want.
  • Make yourself available to Trade (invite->Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.

These will come from my Platinum game

What’s New in Platinum: Oak’s Letter

October 16, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Platinum owners can now travel to Flower Paradise and battle the Gratitude Pokémon, Shaymin by obtaining a Oak’s Letter over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from now until November 8th, 2009. This letter asks you meet Dr. Oak on Route 224.

If you have received the Member’s Card, the Secret Key to unlock the Rotom forms or received mystery gifts from Pokémon Battle Revolution then you are ready to go. Just click on MYSTERY GIFT on the opening screen, then RECEIVE GIFT, then GET VIA NINTENDO WFC and it will load the Wonder Card on to your game
If you have yet to receive a mystery gift, go to the 3rd floor in Jubilife TV. Talk to the man next to a lady and type in “everyone happy” as a response to his first question and type in “wi-fi connection” to the next question. Save your game and when you restart it the MYSTERY GIFT option box will appear below NEW GAME on the opening screen.
Once you have downloaded the Wonder Card, Oak’s Letter can be picked up from the green dressed delivery man in any Poke Mart. Even if you haven’t beaten the elite four yet you still can receive Oak’s Letter, but to battle Shaymin you must have defeated the Elite Four and obtained the National Dex from Professor Rowan.

The easiest way to access Route 224 is to come down from the Pokémon League to Victory Road as Route 224 can be only reached be going though the caves heading east out of Victory Road. If you have traveled to route 224 previously, you will need to use HMs of Surf, Waterfall, Rock Climb and Defog to navigate this cave. If this is your first time through, Marley will help you battle and heal your pokémon as you go, but you will also need Strength and Rock Smash.
Dr. Oak is waiting for you at the end of Route 224 by the big white rock. Just before you reach there, Marley will join you and Dr. Oak will ask you who you would like to thank. After typing in what you are thankful for, the Seabreak Path will appear and allow you to walk up a long flowery stretch to the Flower Paradise island in the Northeast of Sinnoh.

Shaymin will be waiting for you at the end and will be at level 30 and have the following moves:
Growth
Magical Leaf
Leech Seed
Synthesis

If Shaymini faints, don’t worry, just walk back onto the Seabreak Path and return to Flower Paradise and Shaymin will once again be waiting for you. You can battle it as many times as you like (or flee if you find yourself outmatched) until you capture it.

You can only capture Shaymin once so I recommend bringing a pokémon with the ability of synchronize with the nature you prefer. Shaymin in its Sky forme has its best base stats in Special Attack and Speed so Modest or Timid are usually considered the best natures. In its land form, Shaymin can be a very good defensive and support pokémon and a Bold nature will boost its defense stat.
Unlike most legends that have a very low catch rate, Shaymin has an average one of 45 and can be caught relatively easily compared to other legends. I was catch one at full HP with a Quick Ball. I do recommend that you bring a pokémon with the move Taunt to limit Shaymin from recovering HP and boosting its Special Attack. I do not recommend trying to inflict it with a status as it isn’t necessary and it holds a Lum Berry.

Pokémon Farming: Mudkips

October 11, 2009 | 74 Comments

One of everyone’s favorite pokemon is Swampert and who doesn’t love a powerful water type that is immune to Electric attacks. When people talk about bulky water types, Swampert is usually what comes to mind. So thefuriousangel bred up a batch of powerful babies for anyone who likes Mudkips.

While these little Mudkips are still just a Water type, they will soon grow up to be a mighty Swamperts. They are bred with a Sassy (+ SpDef, – Speed) nature to enhance their special defense and go with their sturdy HP base. They will all have the ability of Torrent which will increase the power of their Water attacks by 50% when their HP runs below one third. They will all come with these moves:

Double Edge (Normal, Power 120, Acc 100)
A strong attack Mudkip can use until it evolves and can learn Earthquake.

Mirror Coat (Psychic, Power – , Acc 100)
Mirror Coat absorbs special attacks and reflects an attack of double the damage back at the opponent. Swampert’s good HP combined with the Special Defense boost from their Sassy nature makes this a powerful counterattack to any Special Sweeper that might be wreaking havoc against your team.

Waterfall (Water STAB, Power 80, Acc 100)
A powerful STAB attack using its stronger physical attack stat to do damage.

Ice Beam (Ice, Power 95, Acc 100)
While Flying Dragons don’t fear its Earthquake or Water moves, they won’t like to switch into this move. It also gives it a counter to Grass types that might want to prey on its only weakness.

  • To receive one of these Mudkips, be in the wifi room on Tuesday at 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern) on the October 13, 2009
  • Comment with your Name and Friend Code
