Pokemon Farming: Aipom
January 31, 2008 | 62 Comments
Today, we present a Farmers Market Special: Aipom, the long tail Pokemon.

The Aipom for this event are unique, I did not breed them for fighting. I bred them to be item hungry fiends, using that hand for whatever item grabbing they can! I’ve bred up a “Field-Kit” Aipom, a Poke you can carry with you while EV training, chaining for shinys or just leveling up that can double as an item grabber.
First of all, these Aipom I have whipped up all have the ability Pickup. A Pokemon with this ability of having a 10% chance of picking up an item after a battle. The items you pick up vary with the level of your Poke, higher the level, more rare the item. They do not have to be in front of the party and you can have as many Pickup Pokes as you please in your party. In low levels, you can pick up escape ropes, potions, and antidotes. Higher levels can yield rare candies, some evolution stones like dawn and shiny stones, TMs, and on really rare occasions, Leftovers! An entire list is here.
On top of this random, item snatching ability, it has the in-battle moves like Thief and Covet to grab up the goods as well, which is really great for stealing those certain wild-held items, like Chanseys Lucky Egg, Kings rock, Magmar/Electabuzz evolution item, etc. No more tedium of having to catch a bunch of Pokes for an item and then hoping they even have it.
So here is the “Field Kit” move set:
- Thief- Attack 40 Accuracy 100% 10PP has a chance of stealing an item
- Covet-Attack 40 Accuracy 100% 40PP cutely begs to steal an item
- Fling-Attack ?? Accuracy 100% 10PP “Flings” held item, if any. Power depends on held item. Good for when you have something you don’t want!
- Double Hit-Attack 35 Accuracy 90% 10PP Strikes twice (Aipom will evolve to Ambipom upon learning this move, so it will evolve right away)
To make this the ultimate in “field use,” I would recommend teaching it one of the HMs it can learn, Cut, Strength, or Rock Smash. (To replace Double Hit once you’ve used to evolve Aipom perhaps?) I decided to not breed it with HM moves because they are readily available to everyone and so that you can choose which one you need more.
These non-battle “Feild Kit” Aipom will all be named after fictitious monkeys!
Would you like to get your hands on one of the “Feild Kit” Aipoms? Here how:

Pokemon Farming: Tropius

How does that Pokemon fly?
When Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out some of us were surprised that another Grass/Flying Pokemon had been added to the game. (Hoppip was the first.) So here was have Tropius, the fruit Pokemon!
Tropius
This Pokemon will have one of two Abilities:
- Chlorophyll: When sunny, the Pokémon’s Speed doubles. However, Speed will not double on the turn weather becomes Clear Skies.
- Solar Power: Pokémon’s Special Attack raises to 1.5 times but HP decreases every turn.
- Move Set
- Grass Knot - Grass - Special: The heavier the foe the more damage this move does.
- Air Slash - Flying - Special: Power 75 and Accuracy 9%: 30% chance of causing Flinch.
- Body Slam - Normal - Physical: Power 85 and Accuracy 100 : 30% chance of causing Paralyze.
- Earthquake - Ground - Physical: Power 100 and Accuracy 100 : Hits everyone on the field.
Tropius’s main problem is Ice Pokemon. Tropius has a 4X weakness to Ice types. None of the move on this Tropius are of much use against an Ice type Pokemon so please keep that in mind when using Tropius.
Tropius also has 2X weakness against Fire, Poison, Flying and Rock Pokemon. Lucky for you Earthquake is very effective against Fire and Poison Pokemon, Grass Knot will take out most Rock Pokemon (who are often heavy). The only typing that you do not have an effective attack against is Flying.
When I started this project I wanted to see just what I could do with Tropius. Two of the moves on him are from TMs but I did not want to use up a TM is possible. With that in mind I bred my first female Tropius with my Torterra to pass on Earthquake. Sadly no Pokemon learn Grass Knot by leveling up so I had to burn a TM for that one.
Now that I had the TM moves that I wanted I looked over Tropius’s level up moves and decided on Air Slash and Body Slam. Tropius learns Body Slam at level 37 and Air slash at level 47. Because both parents must have matching level up moves in order to pass them on to their offspring I had to level up two Pokemon to level 47. Yes, it took some time to do so. It is also important to note that the next move learned (Solar Beam) pops up at level 51. Why is this important? Because, if you leave them in the day care popping out eggs for too long that move will be learned and will replace one of the other moves that they know!
After breeding up a large number of eggs I had to work to hatch all of those eggs. At close to 4100 steps each (even with an egg-hatching Pokemon in the party) it was quite some time before all of these kids were ready.
Rules
1. I will take any Pokemon you want to give me.
2. The Pokemon you trade to me should be holding something.
3. I prefer berries over all other items.
4. The only exception to berries are the two items that Magby/Elekid hold when caught in the wild.
5. When you leave your information in the comments below your trainer name must be correct. When I do the trading I refer to the comments on the site to see who gets what.
6. When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option and wait for me to select you.
7. If you can, be early. I am sometimes on early.
8. Don’t be afraid to trade amongst yourselves.

Pokemon Farming: Taillow
January 22, 2008 | 60 Comments
This time at the Farmers Market: Taillow, the tiny swallow Pokemon!
Taillow, and it’s evolution, Swellow, are speedy little birds and you really can do some interesting things with him!
First, his ability: Guts, attack is raised when statused (burn, paralyze, sleep, poison or freeze) 1.5 times. So maybe attach a toxic orb or status inducing item and you have the boost.
Next, a move set to play into this ability:
- Roost-restores half of the users HP
- Aerial Ace-STAB, Attack 60, speedy and never misses
- Brave Bird-STAB, Attack 120, 100% accuracy, does cause recoil
- Facade-Attack 70 Accuracy 100%, further boosts attack when poisoned, burned, or paralyzed
It’s already fast, but status it, use Facade, and its attack can be a handful to a challenger!
And finally, all of these Taillows I have bred will be Jolly natured (+Speed, -Sp. Attack). Also, they will all be named after North American birds. So there are lots of interesting ways to have fun with these birds!
So do want one of these speedy fearless little birds? Heres what to do:
- Comment with your Name and Friend Code
- Even if we have traded before, I need your information again!
- Get a Pokemon to trade (preferably non-Sinnoh, though I will take anything, items are always appreciated. I am looking for TM 47 Thief if anyone can spare it, not required at all, though!)
- Be in the Wi-Fi zone between 7pm ET (New York Time) on January 24 (Thursday)
- Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.
- If you are new to our site, your first comment will be moderated. Don’t worry if your post doesn’t show, we will get to it in time, and you will not miss out!

New Pokemon Ranger Game on the way!
January 17, 2008 | 38 Comments

Yes, you read the title of this article right, there is another Pokemon Ranger game on the way.
Nintendo has not revealed much about this new title but from what I have been able to gather this game takes place in another new region of the Pokemon world: Arumia.
- Starting Partners
- Pachirisu
- Munchlax
- Starly
- Turtwig
- Chimchar
- Piplup
- Misdreavus
- Snover
- Mime Jr.
- Gible
- Croagunk
- Kricketot
- Sneasel
- Cranidos
- Hippopotas
- Machop
- Shieldon
Fans of the first Pokemon Ranger game may recall that there were only two starting Pokemon you could get and they were based on what gender your character was. No details on how the starting partner is generated, perhaps something as was done with the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series?

Breeder’s Cup Tournament
January 4, 2008 | 89 Comments
This month we will be hosting a Breeder’s Cup Tournament in the forum. Rules are as follows:
RULES:
1. No hold items will be allowed.
2. We will be using a Swiss system. If you do not know what that means the simple explanation is that one loss will not knock you out of the tournament so you must be able to commit to a full day of battling.
3. Participating members can not have more than 10 current infraction points against them.
POKEMON:
1. Because all Pokemon must be hatched by you this also means no legendaries.
2. Yes, I know Manaphy hatches from an egg but you can not breed a Manaphy, which makes it not legal for this tournament.
3. You can not have more than one of the same Pokemon on your team.
4. All Pokemon must be level 1.
5. All Pokemon must be hatched by you and have your trainer ID.
6. You will only use three Pokemon.
7. You must use the pre-evolved form of any Pokemon used. (Munchlax yes, Snorlax no).
PRIZE:
1. I have a level 3 shiny Zigzagoon named Lilly that I caught in my Ruby game several months ago. Never touched and I have no idea what her IVs are as she is still on my copy of Ruby.
DATE:
January 19 - 20, 2008
The goal here is to see who is the best at breeding a team for battle on site. All are welcome to join but you do need to be a member of the forum. The tournament is expected to begin mid January.
