Pokemon Farming: Totodile
July 31, 2007 | 71 Comments
Today in Johto week, we are happy to bring you the water starter, Totodile!
Totodile and the giant alligators he grows up to be are powerful little buggers, like all the other starters, with the decent stats and all. He was my first choice when I played my Silver game, so we go way back! And like any of the past game’s starters, they are among the few pokes not obtainable in D/P. To even get him you have to play through all of emerald, beat the E4, and then you could only pick one of the 3 Johto starters, so if you picked one of the other fine Johto starters, you’d have to repeat the whole process to obtain the others. Not like the game isn’t great and playable over and over again, but that is a lot of work! Trading for Totodile is easier, and me handing them out in farming? Easier still!
Now, the Totodile I’m offering today, can do some things normal Totodiles it’s age can’t do! Taking a cue from BryGuy, I thought I’d try my hand at breeding move sets, because breeding and hatching eggs was getting too easy. These little guys come equipped with:
- Ice Fang
- Crunch
- Iron Tail
- Dragon Claw
And, if you think the move set is bonkers and you think I’m bonkers for picking it, remember this is my first try, I just tried a set that made me think “I’d want that!” Regardless, I enjoyed the challenge and hope you’ll enjoy my handcrafted babies. If not, you have a Totodile, and those are really hard to come across!
To get your little claws on one these freshly hatched Totodiles:
- Comment with your Name and Friend Code (even if we have traded before, I need this! I do have to clear out my pal pad and people get deleted sometimes, sorry! I have to make room for all this trading!)
- Get something (preferably non-sinnoh, though I will take anything, items are always appreciated)
- Be in the Wi-Fi zone between 6:30pm-7:30pm EDT on July 31st (Tuesday)
- Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.
My Information:
Trainer name: God
Friend Code:5369 6895 7194
I’ll be on early to see if my wifi is up to the challenge, you’re all welcome to come by!

Pokemon Farming: Gligar
July 30, 2007 | 64 Comments
Welcome to Johto week! All this week we will be featuring Pokemon native to the Johto region. To start things offer I present to you Gligar, the Ground/Flying Pokemon.
The Pokemon I used to breed these Gligar from is very near and dear to me. His name is Piko and I have had him since my foray into Pokemon Colosseum.
What is special about Gligar? For one thing he has the awesome typing of Ground and Flying. This makes him 100% immune to both Electric attacks and Ground attacks! Watch out for the Ice attacks though, those do hurt.
- These Gligar come with a very nice move set
- Poison Sting (Poison)
- Earthquake (Ground) S.T.A.B.
- Steel Wing (Steel)
- Aerial Ace (Flying) S.T.A.B. and never miss!
Following BryGuy’s lead each of these Pokemon is named after an element from the Periodic Table of elements. I only have so many of these wonderful Pokemon to share with you so it will be first come first served.
Rules
1. I don’t care what you trade me though I would prefer a non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
2. The Pokemon you trade to me must be holding something.
3. I prefer berries over all other items.
4. The only exception to berries are the two items that Magby/Elekid hold when caught in the wild.
5. For berries I need: 60+.
6. When you leave your information in the comments below your trainer name must be correct. When I do the trading I refer to the comments on the site to see who gets what.
7. When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option and wait for me to select you.
8. If you can, be early. I am sometimes on early.
9. Don’t be afraid to trade amongst yourselves.

Pokemon Farmers Market: Houndour
July 27, 2007 | 68 Comments

Greetings, Everyone!
Welcome to Friday of “Dark Week”! My handle here is BryGuy and I will be heading this evening’s Pokemon Farmer’s Market featuring Houndour.
After I volunteered to breed Houndour this week I realized that I haven’t played with a Houndour or Houndoom since the Gold and Silver Pokemon games! Somehow I missed it in Emerald! Anyway, I was glad I chose this little dark doggie because it was nostalgic for me as well as a fresh challenge to breed something unique and useful.
After a minor hassle of trying to catch one of these puppies in Pokemon Pearl (fiddling with pokeradar, walking in tall grass on route 214, finally encountering a rare Houndoom and discovering that they know “Roar” and run away!) I got to work breeding a “knock-out” moveset. After involving sets of parents that included Arcanine and Lucario as well as Houndoom, I was finally able to settle on the following moves to breed into the level 1, baby Houndour:
- Dark Pulse
- Crunch
- Thunder Fang
- Flamethrower
Pretty nice moves for a little, level 1 doggie! You may decide that he never needs to learn another move, ever! These Houndour are 100% game-legal. They were not hacked in any way. The move set was obtained through normal breeding and careful study!
By the way, I give nicknames to all of my Pokemon. I know some people never give nicknames and hate the idea of thinking up names. I enjoy the challenge and I think it helps give each little, pixelated Pokemon a personality. It also helps me tell them apart so I can quickly find a specific creature. Last week all the Elekids I traded were named after characters from the Star Trek television series. This week, all the Houndour I trade will have names from Aztec (Mexica) history and mythology. Pretty geeky, huh? After the trade, you can pop onto Wikipedia and find out what awesome deity your Houndour is named after. A little “educational fun” tossed in with your Pokemon!!
Please feel free to turn up the loudness on your game so we can talk back and forth during the trade, making selection easier. By the way, you don’t need a headset to talk. Your DS built-in microphone will do the trick. If you would rather not talk and select a Houndour, I will pick one for you.
Here are the rules and procedures for tonight’s Farmer’s Market:
- Enter my trainer name and friend code into your pal pad. My trainer name is BryGuy and my friend code is 3737 6015 6762.
- Have a Pokemon ready in your party to trade to me. Today I will accept anything but I like to be surprised! Feel free to trade me something you think is cool or unique. It is especially nice if the Pokemon is holding something (berries, items, etc.)!
- Post a comment to this article saying that you would like a Houndour. Make sure you clearly and accurately list your trainer name from your game and your friend code. Even if we have traded before, please list this information. I can’t guarantee that you are still in my Pal Pad. I will enter as many of these before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
- In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:00 pm eastern time (6:00 pm central time) on Friday, July 27, 2007.
- When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
- If you can, be early. I may be online early.
- Please be patient. I should have plenty of Houndour. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more Houndour. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!
- The Farmer’s Market will run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm EDT.
- I am only prepared to trade specially prepared Houndour. Please do not ask for other Pokemon. I will not be trading anything other than Houndour tonight. Thanks.
I am looking forward to trading. See you at the Farmer’s Market!

Pokemon Farming: Umbreon
July 26, 2007 | 41 Comments
Whitdjinn here, reporting live from Dark Week to bring you my favorite Dark pokemon. Umbreon! Straight out of Jhoto, it is one of the seven possible evolutions of Eevee.
Umbreon was a favorite for a long time among the competitive battlers with the super high spec. defense stat. While its still high, the move set Umrbeon gets isn’t quite up to par with the other choices that are out there.
Regardless, it remains a fan favorite all over the world. And now’s your chance to get your very own Umbreon without going through the hassle of making your Eevee happy! I’ve done it for you!
Rules
1. I don’t care what you trade me though I would prefer a non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
2. The Pokemon you trade to me must be holding something.
3. When you leave your information in the comments below your trainer name must be correct. When I do the trading I refer to the comments on the site to see who gets what.

Pokemon Farming: Murkrow
July 25, 2007 | 16 Comments
Continuing this week’s theme of Dark Pokemon, today I’ll be giving away the Dark/Flying type, Murkrow. Murkrow was first introduced way back in Gold and Silver, and is the first Dark/Flying type to be introduced. Considering at the time most of the flying types (barring the 3 Legendary Birds) were either Bug/Flying or Normal/Flying, Murkrow’s introduction was a welcome change. This ugly bird has a fairly diverse move set, having the ability to learn Ghost, Dark, Flying, Ice and Normal-type moves, and has pretty decent Attack and Speed stats. In Diamond and Pearl I’ve found it to be a good choice for any party; however, the fact that he can only be found in Diamond limits his usefulness. Until now.
Today, I’ll be giving away Murkrow for all who want one, and here is all you have to do:
- Have something to trade. I will take anything, though I prefer non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
- It’d be nice if your trade were holding something, though it’s not necessary. I’m trying to collect all the berries, and currently I am missing #’s 31, 34, 48, 53, 59-64.
- Be in the wifi room by 8:00 EDT/7:00 CDT, and be in Trade Mode (Invite -> Trade). I will come to you.
- My info is – Trainer name: Bott, FC: 2320 2629 3165
I look forward to seeing you all tonight!

Pokemon Farming: Poochyena
July 24, 2007 | 33 Comments

Today, keeping with our dark week theme, I’ll be giving out Poochyena!
Poochyena, in the 3rd Generations of games, was among the first monsters you could catch early in the game, so there was a decent chance you would have one in your early party. His (and his evolutions) stats aren’t the best, but nothing particularly weak, so he was very useful early on. Ah, nostalgia!
To get him, you have to have Diamond, where you only catch his evolution, Mightyena and then breed him to get Poochyena. You can’t get him at all in Pearl. But now, your version doesn’t matter, anyone can have a Poochyena, because I’m handing these pups out tonight!
To get your little biter:
- Comment with your Name and Friend Code
- Get something (preferably non-sinnoh, though I will take anything)
- Be in the Wi-Fi zone between 6:30pm-7:30pm EDT on July 24th (Tuesday)
- Make yourself available to Trade (Invite–>Trade) I will come to you when I’m ready.
My Information:
Trainer name: God
Friend Code:5369 6895 7194
As usual, I’ll be on early to make sure the ol’ wifi is ready, so feel free to stop by. See you all there!
Pokemon Farming: Larvitar

After taking last Monday off from Pokemon Farming I’m back with a vengeance! This week will be another theme week. What theme? Dark! Yes, all this week we will be featuring Dark Pokemon and I am up first.
For your Pokemon pleasure I present to you Larvitar, a Rock/Ground Pokemon who grows into Pupitar (Rock/Ground) before growing into Tyranitar (Rock/Dark). I have long kept my Tyranitar on my alternate traveling Pokemon list and my battling short list. Sadly he loses his S.T.A.B. upon evolving into Tyranitar.
- The Larvitars I offer up to you today have the following moves:
- Bite (Dark)
- Leer (Normal)
- Earthquake (Ground)
- Rock Slide (Rock)
Two of the moves gain the benefit of being type-related to these guys. Three of the moves target multiple Pokemon! The only downside to Earthquake is that it also targets your Pokemon. Team this guy up with a Flying Pokemon and you can have some serious fun with Earthquake.
Rules
1. I don’t care what you trade me though I would prefer a non-Sinnoh Pokemon.
2. The Pokemon you trade to me must be holding something.
3. I prefer berries over all other items.
4. The only exception to berries are the two items that Magby/Elekid hold when caught in the wild.
5. For berries I need: 37, 39, 47-49, 60 – 62, 64+.

Pokemon Farming: “Punched-Up” Elekids

Greetings, Everyone!
Welcome to Thursday of “Farmer’s Favorites Week”! My handle here is BryGuy and I will be heading this evening’s Pokemon Farmer’s Market featuring Elekid. Elekid is the “baby” form of Electabuzz. Electabuzz made its first appearance in the original Pokemon games (Red and Blue). Obviously an electric-type Pokemon, this yellow and black, human-like Pokemon always seemed to have so much potential, yet it never seemed to catch on as a “big-hitter”. Maybe its original, somewhat disappointing stats in HP and Defense had something to do with it not showing up on winning teams. Electabuzz’s future may now be changed with the release of the Diamond and Pearl games. A new evolutionary step has been introduced. If you trade Electabuzz while it’s holding an “electirizer” it will evolve into Electivire. Electrivire still doesn’t have base HP and Defense stats to write home about, but its base attack stats are pretty impressive. Electivire should be a lot of fun to experiment with to see where it fits in the Pokemon universe.
How do you get an Elekid to train and evolve? If you are playing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and you have become Pokemon League Champion, and you own a copy of the Fire Red GBA game, insert the Fire Red game into the GBA slot of your DS while playing Diamond or Pearl and head to the Valley Windworks and cruise around the tall grass until an Elekid finally pops up! How do you get an electirizer to evolve an Electabuzz into an Electivire? In the Diamond game every wild Elekid will have a 50% chance of it holding an electirizer. In the Pearl game the chances are quite a bit lower: each wild Elekid has a 5% chance of holding an electirizer (yes, I said: five). Instead of hunting down a random, basic Elekid, you could trade with me for a really “punched-up”, extra-special Elekid!!!
I have bred a fine batch of Elekids and I am looking forward to sharing them with all of you! The Elekids I have bred for this occasion have an amazing set of learned egg-moves (these are moves that the Pokemon can not learn through leveling-up). Through a process of multi-stepped, carefully-controlled breeding, I have created Elekids that have the following set of moves built-in:
- Thunder Punch
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- Dynamic Punch
What can’t this little guy totally hit?! These Elekids are 100% game-legal. They were not hacked in any way. The move set was obtained through normal breeding and careful study! You will be on your own in acquiring a electirizer. If you play the Diamond game, this shouldn’t be too difficult. If you are playing the Pearl game (like I am) you may have to trade for one or be very patient (I have obtained a couple, but not enough to give away – I do have quite a few magmarizers, however).
Please feel free to turn up the loudness on your game so we can talk back and forth during the trade, making selection easier. By the way, you don’t need a headset to talk. Your DS built-in microphone will do the trick. If you would rather not talk and select a Elekid, I will pick one for you.
- Post a comment to this article saying that you would like an Elekid. Make sure you clearly and accurately list your trainer name from your game and your friend code. Even if we have traded before, please list this information. I can’t guarantee that you are still in my Pal Pad. I will enter as many of these before the Farmer’s Market as I can.
- In your game, enter the WiFi Club at 7:00 pm eastern time (6:00 pm central time) on Thursday, July 19, 2007.
- When you enter the Wi-Fi zone select the trade option (INVITE -> TRADE) and wait for me to select you.
- If you can, be early. I may be online early.
- Please be patient. I should have plenty of Elekids. I may have to leave the WiFi Club sometimes to get more Elekids. Please don’t panic, I’ll return promptly!

Pokemon Farming: Scyther
July 18, 2007 | 40 Comments
Today’s Farmer’s Market Favorite: Scyther!
Continuing on with our theme this week of farming out our favorites, today I will be giving away an old staple of mine from back in the Gold/Silver days, Scyther. When I first encountered Scyther in my copy of Gold, I didn’t think too much of it: ‘Eh, just some bug’. I quickly found out how wrong I was, that there was more to it than being ‘just some bug’. The fact that it’s dual-type makes it far less vulnerable to Bug-type’s usual Achilles’ Heel of Flying-type moves, it’s high Attack and Speed stats, a diverse move set, and it’s very cool evolution into the Bug/Steel type Scizor (a trade evolution with the Metal Coat – a pain but ultimately worth it) very quickly made this one a favorite and a staple of most of my parties!
Unfortunately, in Diamond and Pearl, catching one of these bad boys is easier said than done. First off, you need to have beaten the Elite Four before you can even consider going after it. You need to go to the Battle Area (the little island in the Northeast of the map) and work your way around to Route 229, past all the trainers and the high-level wild Pokemon (all of which are well over level 50), before you can encounter it. Oh, and that’s assuming that you’re playing a copy of Diamond. If you have Pearl, forget it. However, today, you don’t have to go through all of that; instead, I’ll be giving away this amazing little Flying Bug for all who want one!
The steps are simple:
- Leave a comment with your name and Trainer code. Make sure the code is correct! If it’s not I can’t enter it.
- Be in the Wifi Room by 8:00 Eastern/7:00 Central (I’m trying out a later time, see how well it works out).
- Have something to trade. I prefer non-Sinnoh Pokemon, though I will take anything! Also, if it can be holding something, that would be fantastic! I’m trying to collect all of the berries, I currently need berry #s 31, 34, 35, 48, 53, and 58 on up (this list has not been updated – I did get new berries last time, but I immediately planted them and now I don’t remember which ones I got). They’d be nice, but they are not necessary.
- Be waiting and ready in Trade mode (Invite -> Trade), and I’ll come to you.
- My info is – trainer name: Bott friend code: 2320 2629 3165
There’s a chance that I’ll be on early, so if you can make it early keep an eye out for me. I look forward to seeing you all there!
Pokemon Farming: Lapras
July 17, 2007 | 46 Comments
Today in Farmer’s Favorite Week: Lapras!
Continuing with our theme of picking our personal favorites, I picked (easily for me!) Lapras. Me and Lapras go way back, I’ve always loved it for its high HP since back in my Red/Blue days, despite it weaknesses to electric moves. On a side note, if anyone has played Pokemon Snap for N64, I would play through the first level only taking pictures of Lapras as a joke to my friends (it was funny at least at the time). If you don’t know about Snap, you’re missing out, it was so weirdly fun.
Anyway, Lapras has always been a staple in my ‘main’ party, and I make it a point to catch one (Or receive one) as soon I can. In D/P, you can get the little wonder after you beat the E4, in a special room on Victory road, and you have to do a series of double battles with a girl to go surfing to catch him. Complicated? You bet. I thought it was worth it! I would love to do nothing more than save you all the trouble though, so today is your day for a fresh Lapras baby!
My Information:
Trainer name: God

- Comment with your Name and Friend Code
- Get something (preferably non-sinnoh, though I will take anything)
- Be in the Wi-Fi zone by 7:00PM EDT (Tuesday July 17)

I should be on a little early, to check to make sure my Wi-Fi isn’t pulling any stunts tonight, feel free to drop by.
