Pokemon Farming: Torchic

May 28, 2007 | 22 Comments

TorchicThis past weekend I hatched a bunch of Torchic. Why I hatched so many that this time the trading is going to go a little bit differently.

This time around I will not be listing six of them instead I am going to simply tell you to drop your trainer name in the comments along with your friend code. At 7:00PM EDT (New York Time) I will be on the Wi-Fi and waiting to trade these Torchic away.

As an added bonus each Torchic will be holding a berry with an ID number greater than 30.

Pokemon Farming: Totodile

May 23, 2007 | 71 Comments

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon PearlTotodile is one of the starter Pokemon from the Crystal, Gold and Silver games. This Pokemon was also made available in the Game Cube game Pokemon Colosseum. There is also a special way to get one of the three Crystal, Gold and Silver starter Pokemon in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness as well as Pokemon Leaf Green/Fire Red and Pokemon Emerald.

All of those games, except for Colosseum, require you to do something time consuming to get a Totodile. In fact, Totodile is not even available in Colosseum but you can catch its evolved form and breed it with a Ditto to get a Totodile in one of the GBA games.

Because of all of that many people are unlikely to gain a Totodile of their own without a serious investment of time. Fear not! Since I have now opened up the Pokemon Farm I am prepared to list my first batch of fresh Pokemon for your trading pleasure.

Our third line-up includes these six Totodile. All of them are level one and were hatched in my Pearl game.

If you want one of these six Pokemon just leave a comment below and let me know (by ID#) which one you want. Be sure to include your Friend Code and trainer name. I am also willing to rename them to whatever name you choose prior to trading.

I will be posting these articles at 12:10 PM EDT (New York City time) and any and all trades will be performed in the evening between the hours of 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM EDT.

My Friend Code is: 0559 3242 3898
My Trainer Name is: Ezekial

Why Ezekial? I have restarted my Pokemon games so many times that I need to use a new name each time so I can quickly tell where a Pokemon came from.

Now, just so everyone is clear on the procedure here is how it works:

1) Pick the one you want
2) Place a comment on the blog with your: Trainer Name, Friend Code and ID# of the Pokemon you want. If you want a custom name please let me know as well.
3) Keep an eye on the blog because first time comment leavers are moderated. This means someone may have left a comment that you can not see before you. Because of this I suggest you list the Pokemon in which order you would like to get them (i.e. I want ID #2. If not available then 3, 4, 5, 6, 1.)
4) Enter my Wi-Fi friend code into your DS
5) Be ready at 7:00PM EDT sharp.

The Totodile are all gone now. The next Farming will be Monday May 28, 2007.

The Pokemon Farm is Now Open!

May 16, 2007 | 144 Comments

Oddish in the gardenNow that I have completed my Sinnoh Pokedex and have unlocked the Pal Park I am now ready to open up my Pokemon Farming business.

Don’t be worried, I’m not looking for your money. I’m doing this as a service to all the Pokemon players out there who need Pokemon but can’t get them from their friends or via GTS.

I will be posting a series of articles on Pokemon Farming in the future and each one will feature a particular Pokemon that I am currently breeding. All you will have to do is drop a comment at the end of the article and tell me which one you want. Please be sure to read the earlier comments though as someone else may have already claimed the Pokemon you are looking for.

I would like to use this post to ask all of you what Pokemon you would like me to begin breeding.

This is not a way to get legendary Pokemon or Pokemon that do not breed so don’t ask for them here!

Question: Do you have the starters from G/S/C R/B/Y R/S/E?
Answer: I have access to all of the Pokemon that exist on the GBA games and Diamond and Pearl.

Question: What level will the Pokemon be?
Answer: Either level one or level five. It depends on which game I use to breed them with.

Question: Why can’t I get a [insert legendary Pokemon name here] from you?
Answer: If the Pokemon can not breed I can’t farm it.

Question: What about evolved forms of Pokemon?
Answer: I only offer the pre-evolved form of Pokemon.

Question: What do I have to trade back to you?
Answer: There is not much that I need in regards to Pokemon so I’ll take just about anything.

Question: Can I get items too?
Answer: No, just Pokemon.

Question: Can I specify natures and gender?
Answer: I will list the freshly hatched Pokemon and you get to pick from that list.

Pokemon Breeding Tips: Baby Evolutions

May 15, 2007 | 12 Comments

If you like Pokemon then you are probably aware of the baby evolution Pokemon that exist in the games. The thing about these Pokemon is that they are not always easy to breed for or catch in the wild. In fact, the Pokemon in this article all have one thing in common; they need an item to make an egg.

Baby evolution Pokemon were added to the game when the Silver, Gold and Crystal games came out for the Game Boy. Unlike their more evolved forms, baby Pokemon are not known for being fighters as much as for just being cute. Because of this their abilities and move sets are not geared towards winning battles but are instead aimed at avoiding damage.

Another important thing to understand about baby evolution Pokemon is that they can not breed. Think about it, they are babies not full grown Pokemon!

Not all baby evolution Pokemon require one of the parents to hold an item but these do:

  • Azuril (Sea Incense)
  • Bonsly (Rock Insense)
  • Budew (Rose Incense)
  • Chingling (Pure Incense)
  • Happiny (Luck Incense)
  • Mantyke (Wave Incense)
  • Mime Jr. (Odd Incense)
  • Munchlax (Full Incense)
  • Wynaut (Lax Incense)

One thing to consider when breeding for baby evolution Pokemon is why. Why do you want the baby evolution? If you are looking for a power team of Pokemon for the Battle Tower you might want to avoid going through the baby evolution stage. It’s a well established fact that the higher the evolved form the better the ability scores. Skipping the baby step can provide you with a much tougher Pokemon in the end.

On the other hand, if you are going for contests, you should probably go with the baby evolution Pokemon. What they lack in power they make up for in cuteness. There is also the case that some moves can only be learned while a Pokemon is in its baby form.

I hope the information in this articles has helped you in some way. Feel free to leave a comment or question below.

Pokemon Global Trade Station Tips

May 8, 2007 | 59 Comments

My PokemonOne of the most anticipated features of the new Pokemon games for DS (Diamond and Pearl) has to be the GTS, or Global Trade Station. Using the GTS players are able to trade their Pokemon with players all over the world.

Parents need not fear this as the GTS does not allow for any real interaction between players. You either seek a Pokemon or you offer one.

The GTS is located in Jubilife City. Inside the building there is a big globe. If you look at the globe you will see little markers that indicate where in the world your Pokemon came from. The most recent trade will have a blue marker and by pusing the “X” button while your cursor is on top of a marker you can find out the name of that place.

The GTS is a great idea but, they fell short in a few areas.

    GTS Problems

  • You have to have seen a Pokemon to trade for it - The problem with this should be obvious. Because many Pokemon do not show themselves in this game you can never get them via a GTS trade. Starter Pokemon from other games fall into this category as do “event” Pokemon.
  • You can not search by what others are looking for - I brought some Eevees forward from my Emerald game via the Pal Park and I have hatched a number of Eevee eggs. I would like to trade these Eevee away for Pokemon I want but I have no way of finding out if anyone wants an Eevee without looking at every trade or just offering them up for trade. There may be somebody out there who has the Pokemon I want and would accept an Eevee in return but I’ll never know from just using the GTS.
  • Hacked Pokemon - Unless the Pokemon has an illegal move set or is under level there is nothing in place to stop people from trading “hacked” or “cheat” Pokemon via GTS.
  • Untradable trade offers - There is nothing in place to stop me from asking for a level 9 or under Gengar in a trade. This is an impossible trade as you can not get a Gengar level 9 or under without cheating! Some people are using this to exploit a loophole in GTS to duplicate Pokemon and items.

The biggest problem, to me, has to do with having to have seen a Pokemon to ask for it via GTS. I thought I would be able to use GTS to acquire those rare Pokemon that I have not seen but I can’t!

A minor problem I have with GTS is that it will show me results where people want Pokemon I have neither caught or even seen. If I’m looking for a Pichu and someone wants a Pidgey in return I’ll agree that it is a fair trade but, If I don’t have a Pidgey (or have never even seen one) why does GTS show me this trade? With a limited number of trades able to be displayed on the screen why clutter it up with trades I can’t perform?

The only other minor problem has to do with people who expect me to trade them a level 100 Dialga for a level 5 Starly. Are you insane? Do you lack any concept of rarity and value? The only person who will make that trade with you is someone who is going to send you a “hacked” Pokemon!

To combat some of the minor problems on GTS that are caused by other players, not Nintendo, I offer the following tips.

    GTS Tips

  • Select your location - Before you do any trading be sure to look at the globe in the GTS and enter your geographic location. I have passed up many trades in GTS that, though fair, lacked a trainer location. I don’t just want Pokemon I also want dots on my globe!
  • Offer a fair trade - By offering a fair trade I mean that you should trade your Pokemon for another Pokemon of roughly equivalent value. If you are looking for a starter Pokemon you will likely get it very easily no matter what you offer. Well, as long as you don’t specify a high level starter that is.
  • Don’t specify gender or level - If you just want a Pokemon to fill out your dex, and it need not be male or female, then leave off the gender and level selection options. By leaving those two as “any” you increase the chances of your trade going through by a great degree. I can’t count how many times someone asked for a female starter when I had five male starters of the same type.
  • Sweeten the deal - If you are looking for a better Pokemon than you are offering you should sweeten the deal by having your Pokemon hold a valuable item. Evolution items work best for this.

Pro Tip

Certain Pokemon are more valuable than others in the Pokemon community. If you go to a Pokemon fan forum you’ll see that many favorite Pokemon are shared by a lot of people. I recommend trading something from the evolution lines of, Raltz, Eevee, Gibble, Dratini, Bagon, and Shinx. Any Pokemon that Ash or a main anime character uses will be in demand. A female Pokemon is always more valuable than a male Pokemon because it can learn new moves through breeding with other Pokemon.

I hope these tips have helped you become a better GTS trader.

PS: I will be opening a Pokemon Farm at some point in the future. I’m still in the proccess of migrating Pokemon over to my Pearl game. Once I complete the migration I will be offering to do Wi-Fi trading for any “breedable” Pokemon you may need. Stay tuned!

Looking for Mew in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl?

May 4, 2007 | 554 Comments

You can not catch a Mew natively in the two new Pokemon games; Diamond and Pearl. However, all is not lost!

Several months ago Toys-R-Us had a Mew give away deal, I was there. I acquired many Mews on that day and now you can benefit from my gain.

Right now I have one level 10 Mew in my Pokemon Pearl game and I am willing to trade it away for a Dialga with the Admantium Ball/Orb thing that he uses. This Mew has never been trained or anything, he is in the same state he was when I got him at the Pokemon event.

Mew:
OT:MYSTRY
ID No. 06930
Timid nature
HP - 41
Attack - 23
Defense - 26
Sp. Atk - 25
Sp. Def - 26
Speed - 27

Attacks: Pound and Transform

This Mew has been traded

If you want him, and you have a legit copy of Dialga with his orb then he can be yours.

Leave a note in the comments section and we can work something out.

PS: My friend code is: 0559 3242 3898

UPDATECheck out this thread over at Serebii Forums. Somebody got a hold of one of the Toys-R-Us cartridges and is giving away a ton of Mews!

The Pokemon PalPark is open for business

May 3, 2007 | 38 Comments

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon PearlOne of the biggest complaints Pokemon players had when the new GBA games came out was that you could not bring your Pokemon with you. In the days of the GameBoy and the GameBoy Color Nintendo offered a way to transport your Pokemon from the original games to the newer Crystal, Gold and Silver games. For some reason, Nintendo opted not to allow you to move your Pokemon over to the newer Ruby and Sapphire games. This may have been because they knew they intended to re-do the original games for the GBA as Fire Red and Leaf Green.

With Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl now available Ninntedo decided to allow you to transfer your Pokemon from your GBA games (Ruby, Saphire, Emerald, Leaf Green and Fire Red) to your new game. This is done via the migrate feature and the PalPark.

After you defeat the Elite Four in Diamond and Pearl and complete your Sinnoh Pokedex you acquire the NationalDex. with the NationalDex in your hands the PalPark will now be open for business.

In order to get Pokemon into the PalPark you must insert a GBA Pokemon game into your GBA slot on the DS. You can only transfer Pokemon that are in your box and they can not have any HM moves on them. This means common HM moves such Cut, Surf and Fly must be removed before they can be transferred. I don’t know why they chose to do it this way but it may have to do with the shuffling of HM moves that occurred when Diamond and Pearl were released.

    To Transfer Pokemon:

  • Insert the GBA game into your DS GBA slot
  • Turn on the DS and start Diamond/Pearl
  • On the menu screen choose the “migrate from XXX” option
  • Click yes when it asks you the questions
  • Select 6 Pokemon to transfer
  • Click yes

Your game will now restart and the six Pokemon you chose will be in the PalPark waiting for you.

It is very important to understand that this is a one-way transfer. Pokemon can not travel back to the GBA game.

Once you arrive at the PalPark you will be given six Park Balls, these are effectively Master Balls. You will then be let loose into the park where you will have to run through grass and surf on the water in an attempt to find all of the Pokemon you transfered over. The more rare the Pokemon the harder it will be to find. You also need to take care of what sort of Pokemon you transfer as they will be in a certain part of the park based on their type. i.e. water Pokemon will either be in the pond or in the ocean and Rock Pokemon will likely be in the rocky area of the park.

It should not take more than five minutes to capture all six. You have to capture all six before you can migrate any other Pokemon.

Limits

There are some limits in place for migration:

1) You can only migrate from a given GBA game once per 24 hours.
2) No HM moves

It is very important that you do not try to change your DS clock to migrate twice in one day. All this will result in is a 24 hour ban on the migration feature. Trust me, it’s not worth it!

The same thing will occur if you put your game into a different DS. The game will balk and lock you out of the migration feature for 24 hours!

The 24 hour feature is based on 24 hours since you last transferred Pokemon from that particular GBA game, it does not reset at midnight.

Otherwise, if you have multiple GBA game packs you can transfer multiple groups of six Pokemon all day long!

Note

I do have one concern. A while back I purchased a used copy of Ruby from a game store. On that game were a few “hacked” Pokemon. One of them was a Deoxys that would not obey. On a lark I transferred him to my Pearl game. He now obeys.

When you transfer a Pokemon via the PalPark the only information that stays is where they came from (Hoen/Kanto) and the level they were transferred at. This means the old standby of checking where the Pokemon was first me is gone. In the past, if someone had a rare Pokemon that was met at the wrong place and at the wrong level you could tell it was hacked.

I fear that the GTS may be ruined by the influx of hacked Pokemon. The only thing I can tell you is to beware of any Pokemon trades that involve Pokemon that are not native to Diamond and Pearl.
